The Most-Watched TV Show at 8pm, ABC's "The Next Best Thing" Grows from its Week-Ago Debut, Generating the Net's Top Numbers in the Hour Since November

Against Fox's "So You Think You Can Dance," ABC's Season Opener of "American Inventor" Ranks No. 2 at 9pm in Total Viewers and Adults 18-49, Substantially Boosting the Hour for the Network Over the Same Night Last Year

"The Traveler" Takes Second-Place at 10pm, Continuing to Improve the Hour for ABC

Wednesday Night (8:00-11:00 p.m.)

With the second airing of a growing "The Next Best Thing" leading into the season premiere of "American Inventor" and followed by "Traveler," ABC earned a solid second place to Fox on Wednesday night in Adults 18-49 (2.5/7), pacing 19% ahead of third-place CBS (2.1/6) and 108% ahead of fourth-place NBC (1.2/4).

ABC's prime numbers grew from the same Wednesday last year (6/7/06) by 2.8 million viewers (7.2 million vs. 4.4 million) and by 67% in Adults 18-49 (2.5/7 vs. 1.5/4). On both counts, it was the Net's second-strongest summertime Wednesday since July 2005 since 7/13/05.

"The Next Best Thing" (8:00-9:00 p.m.)

On the series' second telecast, ABC's "The Next Best Thing" stood as the most-watched show during Wednesday's 8 o'clock hour (8.3 million). The new ABC series took a strong second-place in the hour among Adults 18-49 (2.7/9), while also delivering the No. 1 position in the time period with Men 18-49 (2.1/8) and Adults 25-54 (3.2/10).

Growing from its week-ago debut telecast by 6% in Total Viewers (8.3 million vs. 7.8 million), by 8% in Adults 18-49 (2.7/9 vs. 2.5/8) and by 21% in Adults 18-34 (2.3/8 vs. 1.9/7), "The Next Best Thing" attracted ABC's largest audience and young adult numbers in the time period in almost 7 months since 11/15/06.

"American Inventor" (9:00-10:00 p.m.)

Building on its young adult lead-in opposite Fox's "So You Think You Can Dance," ABC's season premiere of "American Inventor" ranked No. 2 during the 9 o'clock hour in Total Viewers (7.8 million) and Adults 18-49 (3.0/8). The season opener ranked No. 1 in the hour with Men 25-54 (3.0/8). The ABC unscripted series gained viewer (7.7 million to 7.9 million) and young adult (2.9/8 to 3.0/8) audience from start to finish.

Versus ABC's year-ago performance in the hour, "American Inventor" improved the time period by 4.4 million viewers and by 131% in Adults 18-49 (3.4 million and 1.3/4 on 6/7/06).

"Traveler" (10:00-11:00 p.m.)
