WEEK No. 8:

It was a close race for first place during the week (w/o 11/12/07) among Adults 18-49, as ABC (3.3/9), CBS (3.3/9) and Fox (3.4/9) all delivered a 9 audience share, while Fox held a slight advantage in rating. It's certainly worth noting that Fox's weekly standings and averages were inflated by a high-rated NFL overrun on Sunday into the first hour of primetime. ABC ranked No. 1 for the 8th consecutive week this season across the key women demographics: W18-34 (3.6/10), W18-49 (4.4/11) and W25-54 (5.1/12).

Rankings: ABC's "Dancing with the Stars" and "Grey's Anatomy" were the No. 1 TV shows for the week in Total Viewers and Adults 18-49, respectively. In fact the Net aired 3 of the Top 4 most-watched television programs overall: "Dancing with the Stars-MON" No. 1, "Grey's Anatomy" No. 3 and "Dancing with the Stars the Results-TU" No. 4. ABC placed 6 of the Top 20 television shows in Adults 18-49: "Grey's Anatomy" No. 1, "Dancing with the Stars-MON" No. 7, "American Music Awards" No. 10, "Samantha Who?" No. 17, while "Private Practice" and "DWTS the Results-TU" tied at No. 20. ABC's "Samantha Who?" and "Private Practice" ranked as the Top 2 new series in both Total Viewers and Adults 18-49.

A note about increasing DVR penetration and year to year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating trends based on the Live + Same Day data stream may be somewhat distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has more than doubled from 10% during the same point in 2006 up to 21% currently. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. Therefore, the only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.

Featuring its lineup of "Dancing with the Stars," "Samantha Who?" and "The Bachelor," ABC stood as Monday's most-watched TV network for the eighth week running, outperforming second-place CBS by 3.9 million viewers (16.3 million vs. 12.4 million). The Net also ranked No. 1 on the evening among Adults 18-49 (4.4/11) and Adults 25-54 (5.5/13) for the second week in a row.

Actor Cameron Mathison was the eighth celebrity dancer to be eliminated from the contest, leaving the dance competition with its final four.

"Boston Legal" (10:02-11:00 p.m.)

ABC's "Boston Legal" defeated CBS' third-place "Cane" by a best-ever 4.1 million viewers (11.4 million vs. 7.3 million) and by 56% in Adults 18-49 (2.8/8 vs. 1.8/5).

"Boston Legal" matched the series' biggest audience on the night in more than 1-1/2 years 1/24/06.

ABC finished in a virtual tie for first place with CBS on Wednesday among Adults 18-49 (3.4/9 vs. 3.5/9). The Net ranked No. 1 on Wednesday in Adults 18-34 (3.1/9) for the 7th time in 8 weeks, and for the 8th straight week across the key women demographics: W18-34 (4.5/12), W18-49 (4.6/11) and W25-54 (5.2/12-tie).

ABC generated its biggest audience (13.0 million) on the night in 7 weeks largest since season premiere Thursday on 9/27/07.

"Ugly Betty" (8:00-9:00 p.m.)

Holding second to CBS' "Survivor: China" from 8:00-9:00 p.m., ABC's "Ugly Betty" topped its NBC comedy competition in the hour ("My Name is Earl"/"30 Rock") in Total Viewers (10.7 million vs. 7.2 million) and in Adults 18-49 (3.5/9 vs. 3.4/9). For the 8th consecutive week, "Betty" ranked No. 1 in its time slot with Women 18-34, besting second-place "Survivor: China" by 23% (4.8/13 vs. 3.911).

In its time period, "Grey's" beat out CBS' "C.S.I." by 26% in Adults 18-49 (8.2/19 vs. 6.5/15). "Grey's Anatomy" attracted its largest audience (19.6 million) and highest ratings across the adult demos (AD18-34/AD18-49/AD25-54) since its season opener since 9/27/07. In fact among Adults 18-49, it was TV's second-highest-rated scripted series telecast this season, behind only its own season premiere on 9/27/07.

"Women's Murder Club" (10:02-11:00 p.m.)
