Quick Take for Tuesday, August 5, 2008 (Fast Affiliate Live + Same Day Ratings)

ABC's "Wipeout," Featuring the First Annual "Wipey Awards," Leads at 8pm in Adults 18-49 and Across All Key Men Demographics

"I Survived a Japanese Game Show" Season Finale Grows its Audience From the First Hour to the Second Hour Across All Key Women Demos

Tuesday Night (8:00-11:00 p.m.)

ABC's Tuesday finished second on the night in Adults 18-49 (2.1/6). The Net also took second among Women 18-49 (2.4/7), Men 18-49 (1.8/6) and Adults 25-54 (2.4/6-tie).

"Wipeout" (8:00-9:00 p.m.)

ABC's "Wipeout," featuring the first annual "Wipey Awards" that celebrated the best of the best crazy contestants, memorable moments and spectacular wipeouts from the season so far, led the 8 o'clock in Adults 18-49 (2.8/9). It was the 3rd week in a row that "Wipeout" was No. 1 in the hour and the 6th time in its 7 telecast this season. The hit ABC series also ranked No. 1 in its time period across each of the key demographics: Men 18-34 (1.9/8), Men 18-49 (2.5/8) and Men 25-54 (2.9/9).

* "Wipeout" improved ABC's performance in the hour on the same night last year (8/7/07) by nearly 1.0 million viewers (7.3 vs. 6.4 million) and by 40% in Adults 18-49 (2.8/9 vs. 2.0/7).

"I Survived a Japanese Game Show" (9:00-11:00 p.m.)

Opposite stiff competition including CBS' "Big Brother" and NBC's 2-hour telecast of "America's Got Talent," the season finale of ABC's "I Survived a Japanese Game Show" saw its audience grow from its first hour to its second hour across each of the key women demos: Women 18-34 (1.7/5 to 1.8/6), Women 18-49 (2.0/6 to 2.2/6) and Women 25-54 (2.2/5 to 2.4/6).

* During the course of its run, "I Survived a Japanese Game Show" improved ABC's performance in its time period by 13% in Total Viewers (6.1 million vs. 5.4 million) and by 25% in Adults 18-49 (2.5/6 vs. 2.0/6).

A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating trends based on the Live + Same Day data stream may be somewhat distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped from 18% at the same point in 2006-07, up to 26% currently. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.
