A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating comparisons based on the Live + Same Day data stream are distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped up to 38% currently, from 34% at the same point in 2009. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.

During the week of December 27, 2010, ABC aired 5 of the Top 10 non-sports TV programs in Adults 18-49, including 3 of the Top 4 and the No. 1 scripted show with "Desperate Housewives": "Desperate Housewives" - No. 1, "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve 11" - No. 3, "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" - No. 4, "Brothers & Sisters" - No. 8 and "Modern Family" - No. 10. In fact in the final hour of prime, "Dick Clark's Primetime New Year's Rockin' Eve" beat the combined deliveries of CBS and NBC in the key young adult sales demo by 33% (2.8/11 vs. 2.1/8).

· Head to head from 10:00-11:00 p.m., ABC's "Dick Clark's Primetime New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2011" more than doubled the results of NBC's "New Year's Eve with Carson Daly" (3.9 million & 1.2/5), leading by 136% in Viewers and by 133% in Adults 18-49.
