ABC's "The Bachelorette" is Up/"Castle" Marks its Most-Watched-Ever Summer Repeat

Early info on ABC's Monday, ahead of the regular press release.

Rising in each half hour of the night, ABC's Monday night grew week to week by double digits in Total Viewers (+17%) and Adults 18-49 (+13%). The Net ranked #1 on the evening with Women 18-49.

At 8pm, ABC's The Bachelorette won its 2-hour time period for the 3rd week running with all key Women demos (W18-34/W18-49/W25-54). Gaining viewers and young adults from its first hour to its second hour, The Bachelorette moved up to become the most-watched series in the 9pm hour and ranked #1 with Adults 18-34, beating Fox's season premiere of Master Chef and NBC's America's Got Talent-driven American Ninja Warrior. The Bachelorette registered as Monday's #1 TV series for the 3rd straight week with its core audience of Women 18-34.

· ABC's The Bachelorette's numbers jumped week to week by nearly 1.0 million viewers and by 11% in Adults 18-49.

Taking second place during the 10 o'clock hour, ABC's Castle marked its most-watched-ever summer repeat telecast.

Rising in each half-hour of the night, ABC's Monday night grew week to week by double-digits in Total Viewers (+17% - 6.2 million vs. 5.3 million) and Adults 18-49 (+13% - 1.7/5 vs. 1.5/4). The Net ranked No. 1 on the evening with Women 18-49.

"The Bachelorette" (8:00-10:00 p.m.)

At 8:00 p.m., ABC's "The Bachelorette" won its 2-hour time period for the 3rd week running with all key Women demos (W18-34/W18-49/W25-54). Gaining viewers and young adults from its first hour to its second hour, "The Bachelorette" moved up to become the most-watched series in the 9:00 p.m. hour and ranked No. 1 with Adults 18-34, beating Fox's season premiere of "Master Chef" and NBC's "America's Got Talent"-driven "American Ninja Warrior." "The Bachelorette" registered as Monday's No. 1 TV series for the 3rd straight week with its core audience of Women 18-34 (2.8/8).

Taking second place during the 10 o'clock hour, ABC's "Castle" marked its most-watched-ever summer repeat telecast (5.2 million).

A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating comparisons based on the Live + Same Day data stream are distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped up to 44% currently, from 41% at the same point in 2011. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.
