Wednesday's Broadcast Ratings: "American Idol" Triumphs Over Repeat Competition

Here are the highlights of the 15 ad-sustained programs that aired in primetime on the broadcast networks last night:

FOX (12.706 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 3.7, #1) cruised to victory on Wednesday with a new two-hour "American Idol" (12.706 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 3.7, #1).

The silver then went to CBS (7.914 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.9, #2) with a new "Survivor: Caramoan - Fans vs. Favorites" (9.364 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 2.5, #2) followed by repeats of "Criminal Minds" (7.267 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.7, #T4) and "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" (7.111 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 1.5, #8).

Next up was ABC (4.758 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.5, #3) and its mix of a "The Middle" (5.934 million viewers, #6; adults 18-49: 1.6, #7) repeat, a new "The Neighbors" (5.609 million viewers, #7; adults 18-49: 1.7, #T4), a repeat "Modern Family" (6.103 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 2.0, #3), a new "Suburgatory" (4.624 million viewers, #8; adults 18-49: 1.7, #T4) and a repeat of "Nashville" (3.138 million viewers, #12; adults 18-49: 0.9, #13).

Meanwhile, NBC (3.849 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 1.1, #4) offered up an original "Whitney" (3.845 million viewers, #11; adults 18-49: 1.3, #9) followed by repeats of "Whitney" (2.856 million viewers, #13; adults 18-49: 1.0, #T11), "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" (4.247 million viewers, #9; adults 18-49: 1.1, #10) and "Chicago Fire" (3.949 million viewers, #10; adults 18-49: 1.0, #T11).

And finally, rebroadcasts of "Arrow" (1.738 million viewers, #14; adults 18-49: 0.4, #14) and "Supernatural" (1.114 million viewers, #15; adults 18-49: 0.4, #15) on The CW (1.426 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 0.4, #5) closed out the evening. In the netlet's target demo (women 18-34), "Arrow" delivered a 0.3 rating at 8:00/7:00c and "Supernatural" a 0.2 rating at 9:00/8:00c.

* In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, adult 18-49 Wednesday results were: "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," 0.6/3 with an encore; "Late Show," 0.6/3 with an encore; and "Jimmy Kimmel Live," 0.8/4.

* From 12:35-1:05 a.m. ET Wednesday night, ABC's "Nightline" averaged a 1.3/5 in metered-market households and a 0.4/3 in 18-49 in the Local People Meters.

* From 12:35-1:35 a.m. ET, "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" (1.1/4 in metered-market households with an encore) trailed CBS's first-run "Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson" (1.2/4). In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, "Late Night" (0.4/3 in 18-49 with an encore) tied "Late Late Show" (0.4/3).

* At 1:35 a.m., "Last Call with Carson Daly" averaged a 0.7/3 in metered-market households with an encore and a 0.2/2 in adults 18-49 in the 25 markets with local people meters.

CBS (8.70 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 2.2, #2) then snagged a distant second place with a new "Survivor: One World" (10.63 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 3.2, #2) followed by repeats of "Criminal Minds" (7.19 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 1.6, #T6) and "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" (8.30 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.8, #5).

Next up was ABC (5.11 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.7, #3) with repeats of "The Middle" (5.25 million viewers, #6; adults 18-49: 1.5, #T8), "Suburgatory" (4.56 million viewers, #8; adults 18-49: 1.5, #T8) and "Modern Family" (6.15 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 2.4, #3) followed by a new "Happy Endings" (4.53 million viewers, #9; adults 18-49: 2.0, #4) and the special "Revenge for Real" (5.07 million viewers, #7; adults 18-49: 1.4, #11).

Meanwhile, NBC (3.72 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 1.2, #4) offered up new episodes of "Whitney" (4.32 million viewers, #10; adults 18-49: 1.6, #T6) and "Are You There, Chelsea?" And finally, new episodes of "One Tree Hill" (1.48 million viewers, #14; adults 18-49: 0.7, #14) and "America's Next Top Model" (1.41 million viewers, #15; adults 18-49: 0.6, #15) on The CW (1.44 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 0.6, #5) closed out the evening. In the netlet's target demo (women 18-34), "Hill" delivered a 1.4 rating while "Top Model" posted a 0.9 rating.

At 1:35 a.m., "Last Call with Carson Daly" averaged a 0.7/3 with an encore in metered-market households and a 0.2/2 in adults 18-49 in the 25 markets with local people meters.
