ABC's "Dancing with the Stars" Builds Over Week 2 of Last Season in Viewers and Young Adults

Featuring Week 2 of DWTS Season 16 and Castle, ABC stood as Monday's most-watched TV net (5th time in 6 weeks), beating runner-up NBC with The Voice premiere and the return of Revolution by 1.7 million viewers. For the 2nd week in a row, DWTS was the most-watched TV show overall on Monday and Castle was the night's most-watched scripted program.

Up over Week 2 of Season 15 by 1.7 million viewers and 10% in Adults 18-49, ABC's Dancing with the Stars was the most-watched show in its 2-hour time period, outdrawing the season opener of The Voice by 5% in head-to-head competition. Among Adults 18-49, DWTS outdelivered Fox's dramas in each hour (Bones/The Following), leading by 10% on average in its time period.

ABC's Castle was the most-watched TV show in 10 o'clock hour (5th straight telecast), topping CBS Hawaii Five-0 by a season-best 2.5 million viewers and the return of Revolution by a best-ever 3.5 million viewers. In addition, the ABC drama outdelivered Hawaii Five-0 in both Adults 18-49 and Adults 25-54.

Monday Night (8:00-11:00 p.m.)

Featuring Week 2 of "DWTS" Season 16 and "Castle," ABC stood as Monday's most-watched TV net (5th time in 6 weeks), beating runner-up NBC with "The Voice" premiere and the return of "Revolution" by 1.7 million viewers (13.0 million vs. 11.3 million). For the 2nd week in a row, "DWTS" was the most-watched TV show overall on Monday and "Castle" was the night's most-watched scripted program.

Up over Week 2 of Season 15 by 1.7 million viewers and 10% in Adults 18-49, ABC's "Dancing with the Stars" was the most-watched show in its 2-hour time period, outdrawing the season opener of "The Voice" by 5% in head-to-head competition (14.1 million vs. 13.4 million). Among Adults 18-49, "DWTS" outdelivered Fox's dramas in each hour ("Bones"/"The Following"), leading by 10% on average in its time period (2.3/6 vs. 2.1/6).

"Castle" (10:00-11:00 p.m.)

ABC's "Castle" (10.7 million) was the most-watched TV show in 10 o'clock hour (5th straight telecast), topping CBS "Hawaii Five-0" by a season-best 2.5 million viewers (8.2 million) and the return of "Revolution" by a best-ever 3.5 million viewers (7.2 million). In addition, the ABC drama outdelivered "Hawaii Five-0" in both Adults 18-49 and Adults 25-54.

A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating comparisons based on the Live + Same Day data stream are distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped up to 47% currently, from 43% at the same point in 2012. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.
