ABC's "Mistresses" Spikes Over Its Lead-in and Continues to Improve Its Time Slot

Spiking 43% over its lead-in at 10pm in Adults 18-49, ABC's Mistresses returned after being pre-empted for 2 weeks to dominate NBC's Siberia in the hour (+43%), which fell from its lead-in. In addition, Mistresses continued to improve its time period for ABC over the year-ago night with original programming, growing the hour by 75% in viewers and by 43% in young adults. On average, the new ABC drama has boosted its slot year to year by strong margins in both Total Viewers (+47%) and Adults 18-49 (+73%).

Spiking 43% over its lead-in at 10:00 p.m. in Adults 18-49, ABC's "Mistresses" returned after being pre-empted for 2 weeks to dominate NBC's "Siberia" in the hour (+43% - 1.0/3 vs. 0.7/2), which fell from its lead-in. In addition, "Mistresses" continued to improve its time period for ABC over the year-ago night with original programming, growing the hour by 75% in viewers and by 43% in young adults (2.0 million and 0.7/2, respectively, with "The Glass House" on 8/20/12). On average, the new ABC drama has boosted its slot year to year by strong margins in both Total Viewers (+47%) and Adults 18-49 (+73%).

A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating comparisons based on the Live + Same Day data stream are distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped up to 48% currently, from 45% at the same point in 2012. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.
