NEW YORK - January 22, 2014 - In its debut last night, Syfy's new reality series Opposite Worlds - featuring drama, shocking twists and an unexpectedly emotional first challenge - set channel social media records along with delivering a wider, younger-skewing female audience. The show, which pits contestants in a past versus future live social experiment, also became the channel's most watched reality premiere in six months among Adults 18-49, averaging 645K in that key demographic.

The series, hosted by Luke Tipple (Capture), also delivered one million total viewers during its telecast Tuesday, January 21 from 10-11PM (ET/PT).

Opposite Worlds was exceptionally strong among young females, becoming Syfy's highest rated series premiere - both scripted and unscripted -- in Women 18-34 since 2008.

The series was the highest rated unscripted series, among Adults 18-49, to debut on Syfy in Tuesday prime in nearly a year.

The second episode of Opposite Worlds, tonight at 10PM (ET/PT), will be Syfy's first live weekly reality series telecast. The 12-episode Opposite Worlds will run for six weeks.

In Opposite Worlds, 14 people from all walks of life go head-to-head in opposing teams that live in a house separated into two distinctly different worlds: one future and one past, each with its own unique advantages and disadvantages. Adding to the drama is a glass wall dividing the house into the two environments, allowing the teams to watch, envy and dread each other's every move. Viewers can contribute to the chatter about Opposite Worlds - and affect each weekly challenge - by following the handle @syfyoppworlds and using the hashtag #oppositeworlds on Twitter.

Opposite Worlds is executive produced by JD Roth, Todd A. Nelson, Brant Pinvidic, Adam Kaloustian and Curtis Colden for Eyeworks USA. The series is based on the hit Chilean format, Mundos Opuestos, originally broadcast on Canal 13 and distributed by Banijay International.
