Wednesday's Broadcast Ratings: NBC Tops Viewers, Splits Demos with CBS

Here are the highlights of the 14 ad-sustained programs that aired in primetime on the broadcast networks last night (8/13/14):

NBC (6.912 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 1.3, #T1) was the most-watched network on Wednesday with its mix of an "America's Got Talent" (5.827 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.1, #T5) recap followed by new episodes of "America's Got Talent" (9.704 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 1.8, #2) and "Taxi Brooklyn" (5.204 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 0.9, #T10).

CBS (5.709 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.3, #T1) then split the demo crown with its combination of "Big Brother 16" (6.594 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 2.0, #1), "Criminal Minds" (4.899 million viewers, #6; adults 18-49: 0.9, #T10) and "Extant" (5.633 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 1.0, #T8).

Next up was ABC (3.765 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.0, #T3) with repeats of "The Middle" (4.242 million viewers, #7; adults 18-49: 1.1, #T5), "The Goldbergs" (3.701 million viewers, #10; adults 18-49: 1.1, #T5), "Modern Family" (3.717 million viewers, #9; adults 18-49: 1.2, #4) and another "Modern Family" (3.933 million viewers, #8; adults 18-49: 1.3, #3) plus a new "Motive" (3.497 million viewers, #11; adults 18-49: 0.7, #12).

Meanwhile, FOX (3.444 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 1.0, #T3) offered up an original "So You Think You Can Dance" (3.444 million viewers, #12; adults 18-49: 1.0, #T8).

And finally, a new "Penn & Teller: Fool Us" (1.665 million viewers, #13; adults 18-49: 0.5, #13) and a repeat "The 100" (0.642 million viewers, #14; adults 18-49: 0.2, #14) closed out the evening on The CW (1.153 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 0.4, #5). In the netlet's target demo (women 18-34), the former delivered a 0.2 rating while the latter posted a 0.0 rating.

In late-night metered market ratings (via NBC's press release):

· In Nielsen's 56 metered markets, household results were: "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," 2.9/8; CBS's "Late Show with David Letterman," 1.8/5 with an encore; and ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live," 1.6/4 with an encore.

· In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, adult 18-49 results were: "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," 1.0/5; "Late Show," 0.4/2 with an encore; and "Jimmy Kimmel Live," 0.6/3 with an encore.

· From 12:35-1:05 a.m. ET, ABC's "Nightline" averaged a 1.1/4 in metered-market households and a 0.3/2 in 18-49 in the Local People Meters.

· From 12:35-1:35 a.m. ET, "Late Night with Seth Meyers" (1.2/4 in metered-market households) beat CBS's "Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson" (0.9/3 with an encore). In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, "Late Night" (0.5/3 in 18-49) topped "Late Late Show" (0.1/1 with an encore).

· At 1:35 a.m., "Last Call with Carson Daly" averaged a 0.7/3 in metered-market households with an encore and a 0.3/2 in adults 18-49 in the 25 markets with local people meters.


Here are the highlights of the 15 ad-sustained programs that aired in primetime on the broadcast networks one year ago (8/14/13):

FOX (4.051 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.6, #1) reclaimed the top spot on Wednesday with a rebroadcast of "MasterChef" (2.735 million viewers, #12; adults 18-49: 1.0, #T7) followed by a new "MasterChef" (5.366 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 2.2, #1).

NBC (6.277 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 1.5, #2) then had to settle for second place with its mix of an "America's Got Talent" (5.785 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 1.3, #4) recap and new episodes of "America's Got Talent" (9.281 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 2.1, #2) and "Camp" (3.764 million viewers, #7; adults 18-49: 1.0, #T7).

Next up was CBS (5.565 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.4, #3) with a new "Big Brother 15" (5.985 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 2.0, #3) followed by repeats of "Criminal Minds" (4.596 million viewers, #6; adults 18-49: 1.1, #T5) and "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" (6.114 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.1, #T5).

Meanwhile, ABC (3.308 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 0.9, #4) offered up repeats of "The Middle" (3.675 million viewers, #8; adults 18-49: 0.9, #T10), "Last Man Standing" (3.248 million viewers, #11; adults 18-49: 0.8, #T12), "Modern Family" (3.386 million viewers, #10; adults 18-49: 1.0, #T7) and "The Neighbors" (2.543 million viewers, #13; adults 18-49: 0.8, #T12) plus a new "The Lookout" (3.497 million viewers, #9; adults 18-49: 0.9, #T10).

And finally, The CW (1.172 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 0.3, #5) closed out the evening with repeats of "Arrow" (1.312 million viewers, #14; adults 18-49: 0.4, #14) and "Supernatural" (1.032 million viewers, #15; adults 18-49: 0.3, #15). In the netlet's target demo (women 18-34), "Arrow" delivered a 0.3 rating at 8:00/7:00c and "Supernatural" a 0.3 rating at 9:00/8:00c.
