"The 66th Primetime Emmy(R) Awards" Posts NBC's Highest-Rated Monday in Metered-Market Households, Excluding Olympics, In Seven Years
NBC spins the numbers for Monday, August 25.

[via press release from NBC]

These are results from the local markets metered by Nielsen, time zone-adjusted fast nationals are expected later today.

In metered-market households:

"The 66th Primetime Emmy(R) Awards" (10.9 rating, 18 share in households from 8-11 p.m. in the 56 markets metered by Nielsen Media Research) dominated the night, topping the combined primetime averages of CBS (3.3/5), ABC (3.2/5) and Fox (3.2/5).

It's NBC's highest-rated Monday in metered-market households, excluding Olympics, in seven years, since Jan. 15, 2007 (Golden Globes).

Versus last year's telecast, which benefited from scheduling in September, a Sunday airdate and a high-rated NFL lead-in, this year's "Emmy Awards" finished within 10% in metered-market households (10.9/18 vs. 12.1/19 from 8-11:15 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 22, 2013 on CBS).

Versus the most recent "Emmys" that did not benefit from an NFL lead-in, last night's telecast was up +14% (10.9/18 vs. 9.6/15 from 8-11 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 23, 2012 on ABC).

In metered-market households, it's the second-highest Emmy rating in eight years, trailing only last year's telecast since the 2006 Emmys on NBC earned a 13.1 on Sunday, Aug. 27.

Note that fast-affiliate ratings at 8 a.m. PT / 11 a.m. ET are not time zone-adjusted and will be unreliable for the live "Emmys" telecast. Time zone-adjusted fast nationals are expected later today.

Monday Results:

· Monday from 8-11 p.m. ET and live in all time zones, "The 66th Primetime Emmy(R) Awards" (4.2 rating in adults 18-49, 15.6 million viewers overall) generated the second biggest overall audience for an Emmys telecast in eight years and equaled the second highest Emmy rating in adults 18-49 in seven years, according to time zone-adjusted fast official ratings from Nielsen Media Research.

· The 15.6 million viewers is the second biggest overall audience for the Emmys since 2006, trailing over that span only the 17.8 million for last year's telecast, which benefited from Sunday scheduling, a September airdate and a high-rated NFL lead-in. Excluding those 2013 results, this is the top Emmys in total viewers since the Sunday, Aug. 27, 2006 telecast on NBC averaged 16.2 million viewers.

· In adults 18-49, the 4.2 rating matches the second highest since the 2007 coverage on Fox averaged a 4.3 on Sunday, Sept. 16, trailing over that span only last year's 4.9 on CBS and tying 4.2s in 2009 and 2011.

· The 15.6 million makes this the most-watched night on any network since ABC's Academy Awards on March 2 (35.2 million).

· The Emmys topped the combined Big 4 competition in primetime, with a 4.2 rating edging the combined 4.1 of Fox (1.8), ABC (1.2) and CBS (1.1), while the 15.6 million in total viewers beat the combined total of 13.8 million for CBS (5.0 million), Fox (4.6 million) and ABC (4.2 million).

· The Monday telecast finished within 12% of last year's NFL-boosted coverage on CBS in total viewers (15.594 million vs. 17.757 million) and within 14% in 18-49 rating (4.2 vs. 4.9).

· Versus the last Emmys to not follow an NFL lead-in, the Sept. 23, 2012 telecast on ABC, this year's coverage was up +18% in total viewers (15.594 million vs. 13.255 million) and up +8% in 18-49 (4.2 vs. 3.9).

· "The 66th Primetime Emmy Awards" attracted NBC's biggest total-viewer result in the Monday 8-11 p.m. ET time period (15.6 million), excluding Olympics, in more than two years (since the "Voice" regular-slot season premiere boosted NBC to 15.7 million on Feb. 6, 2012). In 18-49,the 4.2 rating matches NBC's highest for a non-Olympic Monday since Sept. 23, 2013 (when "Voice" and "Blacklist" debuts averaged a 4.7).

· The "Emmys" were televised live to all time zones, and some western markets also carried an encore telecast immediately following the live coverage.

In Late-Night Metered Markets Monday Night:

· In Nielsen's 56 metered markets, household results were: "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," 2.9/8 with an encore telecast; CBS's "Late Show with David Letterman," 1.9/5; and ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live," 1.5/4 with an encore.

· In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, adult 18-49 results were: "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," 1.1/5 with an encore; "Late Show," 0.4/2; and "Jimmy Kimmel Live," 0.4/2 with an encore.

· From 12:35-1:05 a.m. ET, ABC's "Nightline" averaged a 1.0/4 in metered-market households and a 0.3/2 in 18-49 in the Local People Meters.

· From 12:35-1:35 a.m. ET, "Late Night with Seth Meyers" (1.4/5 in metered-market households with an encore) beat CBS's "Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson" (1.0/4 with an encore). In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, "Late Night" (0.5/4 in 18-49 with an encore) topped "Late Late Show" (0.2/2 with an encore).

· At 1:35 a.m., "Last Call with Carson Daly" averaged a 0.8/4 in metered-market households with an encore and a 0.3/3 in adults 18-49 in the 25 markets with local people meters.
