Wednesday's Broadcast Ratings: "Empire" Keeps FOX in Top Spot

Here are the highlights of the 14 ad-sustained programs that aired in primetime on the broadcast networks last night (9/30/15):

FOX (9.926 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 3.7, #1) was still the network to beat on Wednesday with week two of "Rosewood" (6.176 million viewers, #11; adults 18-49: 1.9, #7) and "Empire" (13.675 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 5.4, #1).

CBS (9.258 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 2.0, #2) then took home the silver with a new "Survivor: Cambodia - Second Chance" (9.339 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 2.3, #T3) followed by the return of "Criminal Minds" (9.893 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 2.0, #6) and the premiere of "Code Black" (8.541 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 1.6, #11).

Next up was ABC (6.556 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 1.9, #3) and its lineup of "The Middle" (7.871 million viewers, #6; adults 18-49: 2.2, #5), "The Goldbergs" (7.388 million viewers, #7; adults 18-49: 2.3, #T3), "Modern Family" (8.558 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 2.9, #2), "Black-ish" (5.962 million viewers, #12; adults 18-49: 1.8, #8) and "Nashville" (4.779 million viewers, #13; adults 18-49: 1.2, #T12).

Meanwhile, NBC (6.845 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.5, #4) served up originals from "The Mysteries of Laura" (7.173 million viewers, #8; adults 18-49: 1.2, #T12) and "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" (6.691 million viewers, #9; adults 18-49: 1.7, #T9) plus the season premiere of "Chicago PD" (6.671 million viewers, #10; adults 18-49: 1.7, #T9).

And finally, the "iHeartRadio Music Festival, Night 2" (1.230 million viewers, #14; adults 18-49: 0.4, #14) on The CW (1.230 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 0.4, #5) closed out the evening. In the netlet's target demo (women 18-34), the special posted a 0.4 rating.

· In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, adult 18-49 results were: "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," 1.1/6; "Late Show," 0.7/4; and "Jimmy Kimmel Live," 0.5/3.

· From 12:35-1:05 a.m. ET, ABC's "Nightline" averaged a 1.2/4 in metered-market households and a 0.4/3 in 18-49 in the Local People Meters.

· From 12:35-1:35 a.m. ET, "Late Night with Seth Meyers" (1.3/5 in metered-market households) tied CBS's "Late Late Show" (1.3/5). In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, "Late Night" (0.5/4 in 18-49) topped "Late Late Show" (0.4/3).

· At 1:35 a.m., "Last Call with Carson Daly" averaged a 0.7/3 in metered-market households and a 0.3/3 in adults 18-49 in the 25 markets with local people meters.

CBS (10.026 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 2.4, #1) claimed top honors on Wednesday thanks to a new "Survivor: San Juan del Sur" (9.472 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 2.4, #4) followed by the return of "Criminal Minds" (11.541 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 2.7, #2) and the premiere of "Stalker" (9.066 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 2.0, #6).

ABC (6.995 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 2.2, #2) then claimed the silver with its week two lineup of "The Middle" (7.046 million viewers, #8; adults 18-49: 1.9, #7), "The Goldbergs" (6.666 million viewers, #10; adults 18-49: 2.2, #5), "Modern Family" (9.995 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 3.5, #1), "Black-ish" (7.960 million viewers, #6; adults 18-49: 2.5, #3) and "Nashville" (5.151 million viewers, #11; adults 18-49: 1.5, #10).

Meanwhile, FOX (3.587 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 1.2, #4) offered up new episodes of "Hell's Kitchen" (3.840 million viewers, #12; adults 18-49: 1.4, #T11) and "Red Band Society" (3.334 million viewers, #13; adults 18-49: 1.1, #13).

And finally, repeats of "Arrow" (0.698 million viewers, #14; adults 18-49: 0.2, #14) and another "Arrow" (0.674 million viewers, #15; adults 18-49: 0.2, #15) on The CW (0.686 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 0.2, #5) closed out the night.
