Wednesday's Broadcast Ratings: CBS, FOX Split Demos; ABC Tops Total Viewers

Here are the highlights of the 13 ad-sustained programs that aired in primetime on the broadcast networks last night (7/31/19):

ABC (2.944 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 0.5, #T3) was the most-watched network on a competitive Wednesday with its trio of "Press Your Luck" (3.377 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 0.7, #3), "Card Sharks" (2.786 million viewers, #6; adults 18-49: 0.5, #T6) and "Match Game" (2.668 million viewers, #7; adults 18-49: 0.5, #T6).

CBS (2.756 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 0.7, #T1) and FOX (2.597 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 0.7, #T1) then shared in the demo honors as the latter offered up a new "MasterChef" (3.122 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 0.8, #2) and the Tuesday bound "First Responders Live" (2.073 million viewers, #10; adults 18-49: 0.5, #T6).

Next up was the Eye with its mix of "Love Island" (2.462 million viewers, #9; adults 18-49: 0.5, #T6), "Big Brother 21" (3.794 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 1.0, #1) and a repeat "SWAT" (2.013 million viewers, #11; adults 18-49: 0.4, #T10).

Meanwhile, NBC (2.899 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 0.5, #T3) opted for repeats of "Ellen's Game of Games" (3.159 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 0.6, #T4), another "Ellen's Game of Games" (2.919 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 0.6, #T4) and a new "The InBetween" (2.620 million viewers, #8; adults 18-49: 0.4, #T10).

And finally, The CW (0.670 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 0.2, #5) closed out the night with the penultimate "Jane the Virgin" (0.678 million viewers, #12; adults 18-49: 0.2, #T12) and the final "Jane the Virgin" (0.662 million viewers, #13; adults 18-49: 0.2, #T12).

· In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, adult 18-49 results were: "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," 0.4/3; "Late Show," 0.3/2; and "Jimmy Kimmel Live," 0.3/2.

· From 12:35-1:05 a.m. ET, ABC's "Nightline," averaged a 0.9/3 in metered-market households and a 0.2/2 in 18-49 in the Local People Meters.

· From 12:35-1:35 a.m. ET, ratings were: "Late Night with Seth Meyers," 1.0/4 in metered-market households; CBS's "Late Late Show," 0.9/4. In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, averages were: "Late Night," 0.2/2 in 18-49; "Late Late Show," 0.1/1.

· At 1:35 a.m., "Last Call with Carson Daly" averaged a 0.5/3 in metered-market households with an encore and a 0.1/1 in adults 18-49 in the 25 markets with local people meters.


Here are the highlights of the 14 ad-sustained programs that aired in primetime on the broadcast networks one year ago (8/1/18):

NBC (4.234 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 0.9, #1) inched past the competition on Wednesday with a new two-hour "World of Dance" (5.263 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.1, #2) followed by "Reverie" (2.177 million viewers, #10; adults 18-49: 0.4, #T11).

CBS (3.761 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 0.8, #T2) then was a close second with its mix of "Big Brother 20" (5.570 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 1.5, #1), "SEAL Team" (2.701 million viewers, #6; adults 18-49: 0.4, #T11) and "Criminal Minds" (3.012 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 0.5, #T8).

Sharing the silver was FOX (2.894 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 0.8, #T2) with a new "MasterChef" (3.483 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 0.9, #3) and a repeat "Gordon Ramsay's 24 Hours to Hell & Back" (2.306 million viewers, #9; adults 18-49: 0.7, #T4).

Next up was ABC (2.325 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 0.5, #4) and its second run lineup of "The Goldbergs" (2.958 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 0.7, #T4), another "The Goldbergs" (2.374 million viewers, #7; adults 18-49: 0.6, #T6), "Modern Family" (2.318 million viewers, #8; adults 18-49: 0.6, #T6), "American Housewife" (2.020 million viewers, #12; adults 18-49: 0.5, #T8) and "Shark Tank" (2.141 million viewers, #11; adults 18-49: 0.5, #T8).
