'Nightline' Posts Gains in Total Viewers Season to Date

ABC News' "Nightline" ranked No. 1 in Total Viewers (732,000), Adults 25-54 (174,000) and Adults 18-49 (108,000-tied) during the week of Aug. 21, 2023, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. "Nightline" took the top spot, beating CBS' "The Late Late Show with James Corden" and NBC's "Late Night with Seth Meyers" in overall viewers and the key Adult News demo for the 16th consecutive week.

"Nightline" posted week-to-week gains in all key target demos: Total Viewers (+3% - 732,000 vs. 708,000), Adults 25-54 (+17% - 174,000 vs. 149,000) and Adults 18-49 (+141% - 108,000 vs. 97,000). In fact, "Nightline" turned in its strongest news demo performance in 10 weeks - since w/o 6/12/23.

"Nightline" posted gains on the same week last year in Total Viewers (+6% - 732,000 vs. 692,000) and Adults 25-54 (+2% - 174,000 vs. 170,000).

Season to date, "Nightline" is growing compared to the same point last season in Total Viewers (+2% - 879,000 vs. 860,000). In addition, "Nightline" leads CBS' "The Late Late Show with James Corden" in Adults 25-54 and Adults 18-49.

This week, "Nightline" covered 2024 GOP candidates squaring off at the first primary debate; President Biden's tour of the destruction in Maui; former President Trump's surrender to Georgia authorities; Karen Read maintaining her innocence; break-dancing in pop culture; pickleball's rise in popularity; disbarred attorney Tom Girardi's mental competency hearing; Tim McGraw's new album "Standing Room Only" and more.

NOTE: CBS' "The Late Late Show with James Corden" was retitled to "The Late Late Show-JC-ENC," and NBC's "Late Night with Seth Meyers" was retitled to "Seth Meyers-SM." The retitled telecasts are excluded from the season averages.
