French Lover Swoons at No. 1, Monster: The Ed Gein Story Chills in Top 10 Debut

Plus: Wayward hypnotizes at No. 1 in TV for second week, and Alice in Borderland Season 3 wins the game.

Difficulty in finding true love is just part of the life of a showgirl - or showboy, as it were. This is the case in the film French Lover, which made its way to No. 1 on the non-English film list in its second week, garnering 12.3 million views. The film wooed audiences with its love story of a French movie star (Omar Sy of Lupin fame), who falls for a hapless waitress (Sara Giraudeau) who isn't intimidated by his fame.

Viewers looking to start October with something spine-tingling gravitated to the new installment of Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan's Monster anthology series. Monster: The Ed Gein Story, which debuted at No. 2 on the English TV list with 12.2 million views in its three-day opening weekend, stars Charlie Hunnam as the "Butcher of Plainfield," whose crimes became the blueprint for modern horror. If you've seen Psycho, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, or The Silence of the Lambs, then you've witnessed Gein's influence on pop culture.

Another stop on the spectrum of thrilling watches is Mae Martin's Wayward. The Canadian series reached No. 1 on the TV list for a second consecutive week, with 14.1 million views. It introduces us to Toni Collette's unnerving youth counselor, Evelyn Wade, who oversees the mysterious school for "troubled teens," Tall Pines Academy.

The week ended with a surprise cameo from KPop Demon Hunters' singing stars EJAE, AUDREY NUNA, and REI AMI in an SNL sketch, highlighting just how much of a hold the film continues to have on fans everywhere. Viewers propelled the movie to No. 1 on the English film list once again, with another 18.1 million views.

Proving that there's never a wrong time for romance, fans weren't just lured in by French Lover - they pushed other amorous titles into this week's Top 10. Ruth & Boaz swooped up the No. 2 spot on the English film list with 14.1 million views, proving that biblical love stories still hold sway in this modern world. Then, Miranda Cosgrove continued to dazzle viewers while competing on a dating show in The Wrong Paris, landing at No. 5 on the list with 3.6 million views. New on the English TV list this week is the reality romance series, Love Is Blind Season 9, which won over audiences with its first drop of episodes featuring all-new couples looking for their match, bringing it to No. 4 (3.7 million views). Finally, viewers seeking even more rom with their com indulged in the German film She Said Maybe, which tells the story of a couple on vacation who get some life-changing news, putting it at No. 5 (2.3 million views) on the non-English film list.

No. 2 (6.8 million views) on the non-English film list is Mantis, the Korean action film about the underground world of hired assassins set in the cinematic universe first established in 2023's Kill Boksoon (which found its way to No. 8 on the list with 1.2 million views).

Meanwhile, viewers have fallen back through the looking glass and into Season 3 of Alice in Borderland, putting the series at No. 1 on the non-English TV list with 7 million views. Fans caught up on previous seasons as well, sending Season 1 to No. 8 (2.1 million views) and Season 2 to No. 9 (1.5 million views).

The new series from Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders), House of Guinness, came in at No. 3 on the English TV list with 6.4 million views, proving that family drama is enticing in any century. At No. 2 (5.6 million views) on the non-English TV list is the Spanish thriller Ángela, which tells the story of an abused housewife who's encouraged by a man from her past to leave her husband. But she gets some shocking information that has her questioning whom she can trust. Fans devoured the final two episodes of time-travel adventure series Bon Appétit, Your Majesty, placing it at No. 3 on the non-English TV list with 4.9 million views.

Finally, proving it's the franchise that fights on, Karate Kid: Legends kicked its way to No. 3 (3.9 million views) on the English film list, as Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan reprise their roles in a sixth movie that builds on the series Cobra Kai.
