DESCRIPTION:
(from USA's web site, September 2008) Debra Messing returns to USA Network this fall as Molly Kagan in the new original series, The Starter Wife, recipient of 10 Emmy Award nominations and a win for Judy Davis in the Miniseries category. Once Hollywood royalty and now ex-"Wife Of" a major movie producer, Molly is determined to make her own place in the world even it means tripping over her designer heels every once in awhile. After her recently published children's book didn't exactly sell like hotcakes and the romance with the handsome yet guilt-ridden homeless man fizzled, Molly has been feeling a little bit like the "Forty-Year-Old Virgin Queen" these days. She has, however, become quite adept at directing traffic during morning Drop-Off at her daughter's school while avoiding the withering looks of the "Wives Of" still firmly ensconced in the driver's seats of their luxury SUVs, so to speak. Deciding that the time has come to get serious about her writing—because apparently journaling about the absurdity of life in Tinsel Town doesn't count—Molly joins a writer's workshop. Too bad she has just sworn off men, because group leader Zach—novelist, Oscar nominee and Starter Husband of a powerful agency head—is pretty damn handsome. Luckily, she has her loyal friends by her side to help keep her on track: Joan (Judy Davis), who's working part time at the rehab center to help maintain her sobriety, and Rodney (Chris Diamantopoulos), who has been hired to decorate the home of the hottest action star in town. Molly has even made a new friend Liz (Danielle Nicolet), who is married to the Dodgers' highest paid relief pitcher, to keep her real even if Molly's ex Kenny (David Alan Basche) is still learning the ABCs of good parenting while trying to keep his sure-to-bomb passion project afloat. She might not have it all figured out yet, but Molly's not about to give up trying because after all…Wife Goes On. The Emmy, WGA and PGA-nominated writing team of Josann McGibbon and Sara Parriott (Runaway Bride) return as executive producers along with Gigi Levangie Grazer, who penned the New York Times bestselling novel on which the miniseries was based.
