Max has released the official trailer for its new original biographical series, CHESPIRITO: NOT REALLY ON PURPOSE. Inspired by the life and legacy of Roberto Gómez Bolaños, the eight-episode series will debut its first episode on June 5 on Max, with weekly episodic premieres.
Roberto Gómez Bolaños is a legendary figure in entertainment who left an indelible mark on popular culture across Ibero-America and beyond. An actor, comedian, writer, screenwriter, director, and producer, his talent brought to life characters that became universal symbols of humor and warmth. His legacy lives on through multiple generations who grew up with his stories and still fondly recall his lessons, laughter, and unforgettable catchphrases. A true icon of family-friendly comedy and a cultural ambassador of Latin entertainment, his work continues to cross borders and touch hearts around the world.
CHESPIRITO: NOT REALLY ON PURPOSE portrays the life of Roberto Gómez Bolaños, the man who turned his desire to bring smiles to audiences into a universal legacy of humor and tenderness. Creator of beloved characters like El Chavo del 8 and El Chapulín Colorado, his talent not only captivated a nation, but also crossed borders to find a place in the hearts of millions around the world.
Through a heartfelt journey spanning from his childhood to his most successful years - between the 1950s and 1980s - the biographical series reveals how a young dreamer managed to break into a budding television industry, facing personal challenges and deep sacrifices in his pursuit of love and recognition.
Pablo Cruz stars as the beloved Roberto Gómez Bolaños, "Chespirito," and brings to life his iconic characters: El Chavo del 8, El Chapulín Colorado, and Dr. Chapatín. He is joined by an outstanding cast including: Paulina Dávila as Graciela Fernández, Bárbara López as Margarita Ruíz (Doña Florinda), Arturo Barba as Rubén Aguirre (Professor Jirafales), Andrea Noli as Angelines Fernández (La Bruja del 71), Miguel Islas as Ramón Valdés (Don Ramón), Juan Lecanda as Marcos Barragán (Quico), Eugenio Bartilotti as Edgar Vivar (Señor Barriga and Ñoño), Paola Montes de Oca as María Antonieta de las Nieves (La Chilindrina), Karina Gidi as Elsa Bolaños, Rolando Breme as Mariano Casasola, and Jorge Luis Moreno as Horacio Gómez.
The series also includes standout performances from Sebastián Moncayo as Ernesto Figueras, Iván Aragón as Roberto Gómez Bolaños in his youth, as well as Macarena García, who plays a young Graciela Fernández, and Dante Aguiar takes on the role of young Roberto during his childhood.

Santos also serves as director, alongside Julián de Tavira and David Ruiz "Leche." Costume design by Annaí Ramos, while cinematography is led by Marc Bellver and Diana Garay. MariPaz "Negra" Robles oversees image and hair design, and production design was entrusted to Francisco Blanc.
