Pssica, a Brazilian miniseries directed by Quico Meirelles, with the participation of Fernando Meirelles, premieres on August 20 on Netflix: watch the trailer

São Paulo, July 22, 2025 - Netflix releases the official trailer and first images of the Brazilian miniseries Rivers of Fate, directed by Quico Meirelles, with an episode directed and produced by Fernando Meirelles (Oscar-nominated for City of God), which premieres August 20. This dramatic, action-packed four-part series will take viewers on an intense and immersive journey through northern Brazil.

Filmed in Belém, Pará, the series tells the story of characters whose lives intertwine in unexpected ways along the rivers of the Atlantic Amazon. Janalice (Domithila Cattete), a young woman kidnapped by human traffickers, Preá (Lucas Galvino), who needs to come to terms with his fate as the leader of a gang of "water rats" (criminals who operate on the rivers in the region) and Mariangel (Marleyda Soto), who seeks vengeance for the death of her family, all try to survive the curse they believe has been placed upon them. "I came across the book a few years ago and realized that reading it made me aware of some pressing issues and a reality that needs to be discussed. I'm really happy that we're now launching this miniseries so that more people can hear these stories," comments Andrea Barata Ribeiro, Rivers of Fate producer.

Rivers of Fate is written and created by Bráulio Mantovani (Oscar-nominated for City of God), Fernando Garrido, and Stephanie Degreas. Produced by Andrea Barata Ribeiro, Fernando Meirelles, and co-produced by Cristina Abi of O2 Filmes.
