Docu-reality 'My Korean Boyfriend' Gets a Trailer and Premiere Date: January 1st. Is Real Life Really like a K-drama?

São Paulo, December 16, 2025 - Who hasn't sighed over a romantic K-drama with that classic yellow umbrella, intertwined hands, and the long-awaited passionate kiss at the end? But does that really exist in real life? Netflix has just released the trailer and the premiere date for the docu-reality show My Korean Boyfriend, another unique Brazilian format on the service. The first part of this production, which blends reality show and documentary, premieres on January 1, with the second part following on January 8.

Five Brazilian women, each at different moments in their lives and relationships with Korean partners, arrive in bustling Seoul, the capital of South Korea, to find out whether their relationships can survive challenges like daily routines and cultural differences. Together, without confinement but with plenty of shared experiences, they will put their expectations to the test, with the iconic sights of Seoul as their backdrop.

My Korean Boyfriend was filmed in Seoul over 22 days, with a multicultural crew of more than 100 professionals from Brazil and South Korea. The project also benefited from Korean cultural consultancy from the start, as well as support from the Consulate General of South Korea in São Paulo and the Seoul Film Commission.

With a narrative that seeks authenticity and warmth, the docu-reality was produced by Floresta, the Brazilian production company of Sony Pictures Television. Floresta is also behind Netflix's hit reality show Ilhados com a Sogra, another original format that has just premiered its third season on the service.

"My Korean Boyfriend reflects Brazil's growing interest in Korean culture, and also in new formats when it comes to reality shows. In a very authentic way, with the support of an amazing Korean team, we brought the aesthetic that audiences love in K-dramas while presenting real couples' stories. We have the privilege of being the first Brazilian reality production filmed in Korea, and viewers will see love, drama, adventure, and, of course, challenges - especially from the genuine meeting of these two cultures," says Adriana 'Dida' Silva, VP and General Director of Floresta.

"Until a few years ago, most of the successful reality shows in Brazil were international formats adapted for our market. Today, the reality is different: My Korean Boyfriend is another project 100% created in our country, reinforcing our commitment to developing the local market. It's amazing to see how much our industry is evolving and creating productions that connect more and more with Brazilians," says Elisa Chalfon, Director of Unscripted Content at Netflix Brazil.

Meet the Five Participants of My Korean Boyfriend

Camila Kim, 31, from São Paulo

Camila was born in Seoul, South Korea, but left the country as a child when her family moved to Brazil. Now, returning for the first time to the city where she was born, she is looking to reconnect with her roots - perhaps through love.

Katy Dias, 33, from São Paulo

Kary met Jack about a year ago during a trip to Busan, in a chance encounter on a train. Back in Brazil, the two stayed in touch long-distance, but never defined their relationship status. Now, Katy returns to Korea for a reunion that may clarify where they stand.

Luanny Vital, 26, from Recife

Luanny has had a relationship full of ups and downs with Si Won, whom she met through a dating app. In just four months of dating, she traveled to Korea and deepened their bond, starting to consider a future together. Now, Luanny returns to Seoul to resolve important issues left unresolved and to understand how her reality as a single mother fits into a relationship where expectations and reality don't always align.

Mariana Tollendal, 28, from Brasília

Mariana found in Danny someone she could trust after a previous relationship didn't work out. The two have never met in person, but have spoken daily for four months. She is traveling to Seoul to finally meet him face-to-face and see how their connection translates in real life.

Morena Monaco, 31, from Belo Horizonte

Morena has been dating Suwoong for just under a year. They have already met in person both in Brazil and in Korea. Back in Seoul, she wants to figure out the next steps in their relationship. Deeply attached to the idea of starting a family, she is determined to have important conversations about their future.
