THE DESIGN TEAM GOES BEHIND THE SCENES TO SHOW HOW THEY DID A MARVELOUS REMODEL FOR A TIRELESS COMMUNITY ACTIVIST FOR THE DISABLED, IN THE LATEST INSTALLMENT OF "EXTREME MAKEOVER: HOME EDITION -- HOW'D THEY DO THAT"

"Extreme Makeover: Home Edition: How'd They Do That? (Mackey Family)" - The producers from "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" literally open every door to show how Ty Pennington and his team of designers, workers and contractors are able to change the lives of deserving families as they rebuild the entire interior and exterior of a run-down house in just seven days. "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition: How'd They Do That?" goes behind-the-scenes of the remarkable renovation process in an episode airing MONDAY, JANUARY 31 (8:00-9:00 p.m., ET), on the ABC Television Network.

On Sunday, January 30, viewers will witness how the EM:HE team transformed a ranch-style, one-level home in Granada Hills, California, into a decorator's delight for Consuela Mackey, the founder of the non-profit organization Operation Confidence, which has helped thousands of disabled individuals find gainful employment and assimilate into the workplace. But her efforts to help the disabled don't stop when she gets home. Along with her 14-year-old grandson, Eric Jones, her nieces, 16-year-old Georgia and Valada Smith, 26, Consuela's visually-impaired sister, Sandra Lawson, also lives with her. Consuela has been using her knowledge and resources to educate her sister about technology that's available to facilitate life with partial vision. The family, in turn, is involved with all of Consuela's projects, and look to her for guidance and advice in their daily lives.

The design team from "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" was able to provide Consuela and her family with a beautiful new home. The process of the Mackey family home makeover is the subject of this episode of "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition: How'd They Do That?." As with all of the intense remodeling projects the show undertakes, a great deal that goes on does not make it into the final broadcast. Now viewers can see all of that and more, including:

* The making of Ty's secret room for Consuela - an off-site office building from where she can operate her charity.

* The Grinnan Family, who are also recipients of "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," come to help paint the new office. The Grinnans, whose daughter received a heart transplant when she was an infant, are crusaders for heart disease research and treatment.

* How another side of Paul is seen as he welds a hydraulic bed for one of the youngsters.

* Michael and Constance clashing over the landscape designs.

* How Paige makes some radical changes to an old truck with the help of a custom car restorer.

The design team for this episode consists of team leader Ty Pennington and designers Paul DiMeo, Paige Hemmis, Tracy Hutson, Michael Moloney and Constance Ramos. The show is produced by Endemol USA, a division of Endemol Holding, and is executive-produced by Tom Forman. Michael Maloy is co-executive producer of this episode. This program carries a TV-PG parental guideline.
