OPA!!!

CELEBRATE WITH ABC THE NETWORK TELEVISION PREMIERE OF THE SMASH HIT COMEDY, "MY BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING," THURSDAY MAY 12

Oscar Nominated Film to Air in HDTV with 5.1-Channel Surround Sound and Spanish Audio

Join the seriously whacky Portokalos family for a hilarious evening of cultural clash and comedy when "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" has its network television premiere as the "ABC Thursday Movie of the Week," MAY 12 (8:00-10:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network. The break-out hit film, written by and starring Nia Vardalos, was nominated for an Oscar (for Vardalos) for Best Writing, Screenplay Written Directly for the Screen.

Editors please note: This film had been scheduled to air on May 5 but was replaced on that night by "Sweet Home Alabama."

Life for 30-year-old Toula Portokalos is about to get really interesting. With aspirations beyond being a waitress in her family's Dancing Zorba's restaurant, Toula, with the help of her exceedingly capable mother, convinces her father to let her enroll in computer classes. Along with her newfound education comes the opportunity to manage her aunt's travel agency, through which she gets to know Ian Miller, a man her father would not approve of because he's not Greek. Now Toula, with her bolstered confidence and new freedom, must balance her affections for the non-Greek Ian with the certain disappointment that her cross-cultural crush will cause. Can she reconcile the cosmic (from the Greek, 'kosmos') differences between her quirky family and... well, pretty much the rest of the world?

Starring in "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" are Nia Vardalos ("Connie and Carla," TV's "My Big Fat Greek Life") as Toula Portokalos, John Corbett ("Sex and the City," "Raising Helen") as Ian Miller, Ian Gomez (TV's "Jake in Progress") as Mike, Lainie Kazan ("Gigli," "My Big Fat Greek Life") as Maria Portokalos, Andrea Martin ("Jimmy Neutron: Attack of the Twonkies" [voice], "New York Minute") as Aunt Voula and Michael Constantine ("My Big Fat Greek Life," "Thinner") as Gus Portokalos.

"My Big Fat Greek Wedding" is directed by Joel Zwick ("Fat Albert," "Elvis Has Left the Building"). The screenplay is written by Nia Vardalos. Presented by Big Wedding LLC, Gold Circle Films, Home Box Office (HBO), MPH Entertainment Productions, Ontario Film Development Corp., and Playtone. Distributed by Equinox Films and IFC Films.
