PAT OBRIEN ADMITS HIS HISTORY OF ALCOHOL ABUSE AND THAT HE WAS OUT OF CONTROL IN HIS FIRST IN-DEPTH TELEVISION INTERVIEW SINCE COMPLETING TREATMENT FOR ALCOHOL ABUSE, ON A DR. PHIL PRIMETIME SPECIAL: BEHIND THE HEADLINES, WEDNESDAY, MAY 4 ON THE CBS TELEVISION NETWORK

In his first in-depth television interview since he completed treatment in an alcohol rehabilitation facility, Pat OBrien, host of the syndicated entertainment show, The Insider, confesses to Dr. Phil his history of alcohol abuse and that his life was out of control. The interview will be broadcast on A DR. PHIL PRIMETIME SPECIAL: BEHIND THE HEADLINES, Wednesday, May 4 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

When asked about his history of alcohol and drug use by Dr. Phil, OBrien says I started drinking in the late 60s. I kept drinking, and it really got to a def com three level the past couple of years.

I was out of control, OBrien tells Dr. Phil when answering the question why none of his advisors or trusted people in his life were able to alert him that he was self- destructing.

OBrien recently made headlines when privately taped obscene telephone calls he made hit the Internet after he entered an alcohol rehabilitation facility for treatment. During his interview with Dr. Phil, when asked whether it was true or false that he went into rehab to create an excuse for getting busted for inappropriate sexual behavior he says, False, I fled because I was dying Thank God on some level this happened, and Im not dead.

O'Brien will return as host on "The Insider" on Thursday, May 5. O'Brien will also appear on Dr. Phil's syndicated show, "Dr. Phil," on May 5 where they will continue their discussion.

A DR. PHIL PRIMETIME SPECIAL: BEHIND THE HEADLINES is being produced by Stage 29 Productions and Paramount Domestic Television. Carla Pennington Stewart is the executive producer.
