"LILO & STITCH," OSCAR AWARD-NOMINATED AS BEST ANIMATED FEATURE FILM OF THE YEAR, AIRS ON ABC'S "THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF DISNEY," SATURDAY, JUNE 18
"It's one of the most charming feature-length cartoons of recent years -- funny, sassy, startling, original and with six songs by Elvis. It doesn't get sickeningly sweet at the end, it has as much stuff in it for grown-ups as for kids, and it has a bright offbeat look to it... It's a jewel."
-- Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times
"Lilo & Stitch," the hit, animated, family comedy nominated for an Oscar as the Best Animated Feature Film of the Year, will air on "The Wonderful World of Disney," SATURDAY, JUNE 18 (8:00-10:00 p.m., ET), on the ABC Television Network (rebroadcast. OAD: 10/4/03). This fun-filled, sci-fi story about a little alien lost on Earth, will air in HDTV format with 5.1-channel surround sound and video description via the secondary audio programming channel (SAP).
"Lilo & Stitch" begins with a small alien creature created by a mad scientist. Deemed too dangerous for society, Experiment 626 is sentenced to exile but escapes. After crash landing in Hawaii, Experiment 626 is ready to take on all comers with alien weapons ablaze, but instead lands in a dog pound, dazed and confused. Lilo, a young and lonely Hawaiian girl living with her sister since the death of their parents, picks the strange looking "doggy" as the companion she's for and now names it Stitch.
Meanwhile, the mad scientist (who prefers to be called an evil genius) who created 626 has been sent to recover his little experiment. And Nani, Lilo's older sister, must prove to a tough social worker that she is providing a proper home for Lilo - a task made a lot more difficult as Stitch explores his new environment.
"Lilo & Stitch" stars (voice cast) Chris Sanders as Genetic Experiment 626/Stitch, Daveigh Chase as Lilo, Tia Carrere as Nani, Ving Rhames as Cobra Bubbles, David Ogden Stiers as Dr. Jumba, Kevin McDonald as agent Pleakley, Jason Scott Lee as David Kawena, Zoe Caldwell as Grand Councilwoman of the United Galactic Federation, Kevin Michael Richardson as Captain Gantu, Kunewa Mook as hula teacher, Susan Hegarty as rescue lady and Amy Hill as Mrs. Hasagawa.
The 2002 release was written and directed by Dean DeBlois and Chris Sanders based on an idea by Sanders. The pair is also credited with writing "Mulan," the 1998 hit animated feature. The film is a production of Walt Disney Animation, Walt Disney Pictures and Walt Disney Television Animation. (CLOSED-CAPTIONED)
