ABCs Popular Late-Night Talk Show Renewed for Fifth Season and Reveals Plans for Fall Primetime Special

The ABC Television Network has announced that it will renew popular Late-Night talk show Jimmy Kimmel Live, carrying the show through 2008.

I am delighted to have been asked to host a fifth year of Jimmy Kimmel Live. I watch it all the time, said Kimmel of the renewal.

Jimmy Kimmel is the future of late night television, and were thrilled to have him on ABC, said Andrea Wong, executive vice president, Alternative Programming, Specials and Late-Night, ABC Entertainment. His show exhibits great creative strength, which is reflected in his growing audience. As the only Late-Night host whose ratings are up versus last year, we expect his momentum to continue next season.

The show has also revealed plans for a fall primetime special entitled Jimmy Kimmel Lives All-Star Salute to Jimmy Kimmel Live!, set to air WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 13 (10:00-11:00 p.m., ET), on the ABC Television Network. The one-hour special will include many of the best moments from the shows past three and a half years, and will be taped in front of a live studio audience.

Kimmel continued about the primetime special: If people dont watch this, I am going to be so mad, you wont even believe it.

Jimmy Kimmel Lives All-Star Salute to Jimmy Kimmel Live! will be packed with surprise guest cameos, memorable celebrity guest appearances, ground-breaking music performances and signature Jimmy Kimmel Live comedy segments, including highlights from regular correspondents --Jimmys Cousin Sal, Uncle Frank, Aunt Chippy and the shows parking lot security guard, Guillermo.

Since Jimmy Kimmel Lives network debut on January 26, 2003, the show has welcomed hundreds of celebrity guests, including such notables as Jennifer Garner, Ben Stiller, Will Ferrell, Shaquille ONeal, Steve Carell, Vince Vaughn, Teri Hatcher, Robin Williams, Regis Philbin, Mariah Carey, Jack Black and Britney Spears. The show also hosted the farewell performance of Destinys Child. In January of 2006, Jimmy Kimmel Live celebrated its third anniversary with special guests Eminem, Kid Rock and Jessica Alba at Super Bowl XL in Detroit, followed by a post-Academy Awards show featuring Jon Stewart, Quentin Tarantino and Johnny Knoxville.

ABCs Jimmy Kimmel Live has delivered consistent growth in its numbers this year. During the 2005-06 TV Season, Jimmy Kimmel increased its overall audience by 6% (1.64 million vs. 1.55 million) and gained 17% in Adults 18-49 (0.7/4 vs. 0.6/3) over the prior season. In fact it was the only Late-Night entertainment talk show to post an increase during the season in the key Adult 18-49 sales demographic. Additionally, JKL turned in an impressive performance during the just completed 2006 July Sweep, as its audience grew faster than any of its competitors, and the show enjoyed its most-watched July Sweep in its history. Jimmy Kimmel Live also stands as the fastest growing Late-Night talker of Summer 2006, jumping 17% in Total Viewers and 20% in Adults 18-49 from a year ago, marking its most-watched summer ever.

Kimmel and Jill Leiderman serve as executive producers. Jason Schrift and Douglas DeLuca serve as co-executive producers. Jimmy Kimmel Live is shot live in front of a studio audience and produced by Jackhole Industries in association with Touchstone Television. The show airs at 12:05 am on ABC.

Jimmy Kimmel Lives All-Star Salute to Jimmy Kimmel Live! will air with Spanish subtitles via secondary closed captioning. A TV parental guideline will be posted closer to airdate.
