"The Princess Diaries," starring Oscar, Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winner Julie Andrews, will air as a presentation of "The Wonderful World of Disney" SATURDAY, JULY 21 (8:00-11:00 p.m., ET), on the ABC Television Network. The movie, which will air in the HDTV format with 5.1-channel surround sound and Spanish audio, also stars Emmy and ALMA Award-winner Hector Elizondo and Anne Hathaway ("Becoming Jane," "The Devil Wears Prada"). In "The Princess Diaries," a klutzy, geeky 15-year-old girl, Mia Thermopolis (Hathaway), who lives with her eclectic artist, single mother (Caroline Goodall, "Easy," TV's "CSI") in San Francisco, is visited for the very first time by her grandmother (Andrews) and discovers she's really klutzy, geeky royalty � the princess of Genovia. Due to her father's sudden death -- she had never seen him and didn't know he was the crown prince of Genovia -- she becomes the direct heir to the thrown. After an extreme makeover, Mia begins "princess lessons" to see if she has what it takes.
Mia's life is turned upside down as she tries to learn who are her real friends and family.

"The Princess Diaries," released in 2001, was directed by Garry Marshall ("Pretty Woman," "Runaway Bride") from the screenplay by written by Gina Wendkos ("Coyote Ugly," "Jersey Girl") and based on the novel by Meg Cabot.
