FAMILY SECRETS ON "20/20"

Airing Friday, November 7 on ABC

Three people looking for lost loved ones... Louise, who was left in a New York City phone booth two days after she was born; John, abandoned with a brother in a Bronx apartment when they were babies; and Candy, a teenage mother who promised the baby she was forced to give up that she would someday find her again. Three people haunted by the mystery of their past on a quest for the loved ones they yearn to know. "20/20" joins them as they turn to Pam Slaton for answers. Slaton, who is adopted herself, and tracked down her own birth mother, uses investigative genealogy to unlock family mysteries. "20/20" and Elizabeth Vargas are there during the search, and when some breathtaking and some heartbreaking results are delivered. "Family Secrets" airs on "20/20," FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 7 (10:00-11:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

Plus: A young American hiker named Chris McCandless, the accomplished son of successful middle class parents, was found dead in an abandoned bus in the Alaskan wilderness 20 years ago and became the subject of the best-selling book and movie "Into the Wild." The question remains: why did he sever all ties with his past, burnt or gave away all his money, and head into the Denali Wilderness? McCandless' own letters, released for the first time, as well as new and surprising interviews probe the mystery that still lies at the heart of a story that compels so many to this day. "20/20" will get a first look at Carine McCandless' revealing book Friday night, and a sneak peak at a PBS documentary "Return to the Wild," which airs November 25.

"20/20" is anchored by Elizabeth Vargas and David Muir. David Sloan is senior executive producer.
