"48 HOURS" GIVES VIEWERS A RARE LOOK INSIDE A MURDER CASE WHERE THE INVESTIGATION UNFOLDS ON CAMERA, IN "THE CASE AGAINST SANDRA GARNER"

Saturday, March 7, 10:00 PM

48 HOURS will give viewers a rare look inside a murder case where virtually everything, from the first moments of the investigation through the verdict, are captured on camera in "The Case Against Sandra Garner," to be broadcast Saturday, March 7 (10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

Richard Schlesinger and 48 HOURS, using the most extensive police body camera footage ever for the broadcast, investigate the murder of Jon Garner and the case against his wife, Sandra.

On Jan. 2, 2018, Sandra Garner called 911 and said her husband had been shot by a masked intruder. When police arrived, they tried to save Jon Garner, who had been mortally wounded. Police checked the house for the gunman but didn't find anyone. Sandra Garner, with every moment captured on police body cameras, then walked them through the couple's Maypearl, Texas, home.

"I knew I had to stay kind of calm to be able to tell them everything that happened," she tells Schlesinger.

The couple had celebrated their 18th wedding anniversary just hours before the murder. Sandra Garner was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2014 and relied on her husband to be her caretaker. However, police were shocked to learn that in the days before the murder, someone searched for "how can I kill someone as they sleep" on Sandra Garner's iPad, which made her more of a suspect for the investigators.

Investigators, after searching the couple's home and vehicles several times, found a rusty gun under the front seat of Sandra Garner's Mustang. Ballistics tests showed it was the murder weapon.

Sandra Garner was then arrested and charged with murder. But did she do it?

Her attorney says no and maintains someone else planted the weapon and did the searches on the iPad. He suggests it was someone extraordinarily close to his client. Someone he believes police overlooked.

The hour features police body camera footage and investigator interviews not seen widely by the public, which gives a rich look at how the investigation unfolded.

"I've never dealt with police at all," Garner tells Schlesinger. "So I didn't know they even had video cameras on them."

The jury verdict would stun police, prosecutors and Sandra Garners' family.
