A YOUNG GIRL WITNESSES HER MOTHER IN DISTRESS AT A BLOODY CRIME SCENE IN THEIR HOME - IT WOULD BE UP TO A JURY TO DECIDE WHAT HAPPENED THAT NIGHT

Angelina Fernandes and Her Mother, Stephanie, Speak Publicly for the First Time About the Death of Andrew Wagner in "48 Hours: What Angelina Saw"

Angelina Fernandes will never forget the chaotic scene at her home on the night of May 7, 2014, when she was just 11 years old. She woke up and saw neighbors trying to save the life of Andrew Wagner, the fiancé of her mother, Stephanie. Wagner later died from a knife wound to his neck. Angelina's mother was charged with murder. Both women talk publicly for the first time with 48 HOURS correspondent Peter Van Sant and describe what they say was Stephanie Fernandes' complicated and volatile relationship with Wagner.

Angelina, now 20 years old, describes her mother's distress that night. "I just heard my mom from outside, 'help me, someone help me,' and then I just hear my mom screaming and crying," says Angelina.

Stephanie Fernandes says she had no choice but to defend herself the night Wagner died. "I never, never, and never would kill someone, harm someone in that way, on purpose," Fernandes tells Van Sant. "I will always love him."

In court, Andrew Wagner's mother, Melissa Wagner, fiercely defended her son. "[Fernandes] took away Andrew's joy and love of life ... She took away Andrew's dignity and self-respect. And when there was nothing, nothing, nothing left for her to take, she took away Andrew's life."
