Chief National Correspondent Matt Gutman Reports on the Case That Captivated the Nation, Friday, May 23, on ABC and Streaming the Next Day on Hulu
Sherri Papini, a then 34-year-old mother of two, went missing on Nov. 2, 2016, while out for a jog in her Redding, California, neighborhood. When Sherri didn't come home, her family and friends became concerned and organized a massive search involving the entire community. A few weeks later, on Thanksgiving Day, Sherri was found on a highway about 146 miles away. Sherri initially told law enforcement authorities that two Hispanic women had abducted her and held her at gunpoint, but eventually, she admitted it was untrue and pleaded guilty to lying to a federal officer. Now, for the first time in a new documentary, Sherri Papini speaks out, offering a new version of what she says transpired, reflects on her time in prison and her life today. "20/20"'s exclusive look at the new Discovery ID documentary "Sherri Papini: Caught in the Lie" airs FRIDAY, MAY 23 (9:01-11:00 p.m. EDT), and streams the next day on Hulu.
