ABC News*

It's the case that has continued to fixate the nation: Karen Read, the woman on trial for the second time charged with second-degree murder in the death of her Boston police officer boyfriend, John O'Keefe, in a tragic and controversial case that has left families and a community demanding answers. Moments after a verdict is reached in her second trial, ABC News chief national correspondent Matt Gutman brings viewers the latest details on the trial as well as interviews with O'Keefe's friends, family members, and those at the center of the case that has captivated the country. An all-new "20/20" airs WEDNESDAY, JUNE 18, on ABC and streams the next day on Hulu.

Following her first trial, which was ruled a mistrial due to a hung jury, Karen Read today learned her fate on charges of second-degree murder, motor vehicle manslaughter while driving under the influence, and leaving the scene of a motor vehicle collision causing death after O'Keefe was found unresponsive outside in a pile of snow following a blizzard that pummeled Boston in 2022. Read says she drove O'Keefe to a get-together at a residence and dropped him off outside before leaving, but the homeowners and others at the residence said O'Keefe never entered the home. Read pleaded not guilty to the charges; and today, a jury has found her not guilty of killing her boyfriend but guilty of driving under the influence.

In an exclusive interview with "20/20," Gutman sits down with former Massachusetts state police trooper Michael Proctor, the lead investigator whose previous testimony rocked the first trial. Additional interviews include O'Keefe's best friend, Brendan Kane, and Read defense attorney, Alan Jackson, who share firsthand knowledge and insights into the case against Karen Read.
