What a season it has been for FOX! The "Fourth Network" that didn't even exist two decades ago, and has only been a seven-nights-a-week broadcaster since 1992, will finish the 2004-2005 season as the
No. 1 network in Adults 18-49. This achievement is even more impressive given that FOX has finished the last four seasons as a very close No. 2 in the demographic considered most desirable by advertisers and audiences alike.
FOX will finish the 2004 - 2005 season with a 4.1 rating in Adults 18-49, followed by CBS at 4.0, ABC at 3.7 and NBC at 3.5. The WB and UPN will both finish the season with a 1.4.
FOX, which is also on track to win the May Sweep in Adults 18-49, ranks a dominant No. 1 for the 04/05 season and May Sweep among Adults 18-34 and Teens as well. This is the fifth season out of the last seven that FOX has won the 18-34 race, and the fifth year in a row (and 11th out of the last 14) that FOX has clinched the Teen crown.
FOX won three nights this season among Adults 18-49 (Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday); three nights among Adults 18-34 (Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday); and six nights among Teens (Monday, Tuesday,
Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday).
AMERICAN IDOL - Tuesday ranks as the No. 1 show on ANY network this season among Adults 18-49 and Total Viewers, while AMERICAN IDOL - Wednesday ranks as the No. 2 show in Adults 18-49 and the No. 3 show in Total Viewers. FOX also had the No. 20 show in Adults 18-49 in freshman drama HOUSE, and the No. 1 new comedy in STACKED.
During May, FOX will win its second consecutive sweep, ranking No. 1 among all key demos, including Adults 18-49, Adults 18-34 and Teens. FOX won three nights of the Sweep among Adults 18-49 (Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday); three nights among Adults 18-34 (Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday); and four nights among Teens (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Sunday).
Show Highlights - 2004/2005 Season
AMERICAN IDOL dominated its time period on both Tuesday and Wednesday, leading the network to win both nights for the season among Adults 18-49, Adults 18-34 and Teens.
"24" improves by +16% among Adults 18-49 and +20% among Total Viewers versus its 03/04 performance.
"24" is FOX's most upscale show, surpassing its national average among "Adults 18-49 with a household income of $75,000+" by +38% and "75,000+ Professional, Owner, Manager" by +47%.
AMERICAN IDOL - TUESDAY dominates its time period among all key demos and is the No. 1 program of the season in Adults 18-49, Adults 18-34 and Total Viewers. AMERICAN IDOL - TUESDAY shows an increase vs. its comparable performance last year by +4% in Adults 18-49 and +6% among Total Viewers.
The Tuesday, 1/18/05 two-hour premiere of AMERICAN IDOL - TUESDAY is the highest-rated prime entertainment telecast of the 04/05 season on ANY network this season, and marks FOX's third- highest-rated night ever with entertainment programming.
In its debut season, HOUSE dominates its time period among Adults 18-49, Adults 18-34, Teens and all key measures and ranks among the season's Top Ten dramas among Adults 18-49, Adults 18-34 and Teens.
FOX boasts the fastest-growing program of the 04/05 season with HOUSE's average since January increasing by +119% among Adults 18-49, +113% among Adults 18-34 and +136% among Teens versus 4th quarter 2004.
AMERICAN IDOL - WEDNESDAY also dominates its time period among all key demos and is the No. 1 program of the season in Teens and No. 2 among Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34 (behind only AMERICAN IDOL - TUESDAY). Through comparable dates, AMERICAN IDOL - WEDNESDAY is up vs. its performance last year by +7% in Adults 18-49 and +8% among Total Viewers.
STACKED is primetime's No. 1 new comedy among Adults 18-49.
In its debut season, STACKED ranks No. 1 in its 9:30 pm half hour among Adults 18-49, Adults 18-34 and Teens.
FOX wins Wednesday night for the season in Adults 18-49, Adults 18-34 and Teens.
THE O.C. ranks No. 1 in the Thursday 8-9 pm hour among Teens. In addition, THE O.C. is the
No. 3-rated drama of the season among Teens.
THE O.C. handily surpasses FOX's comparable 03/04 time period average across key demos, including Adults 18-49 (+55%), Adults 18-34 (+100%) and Teens (+82%).
FOX's lineup of COPS, COPS 2 and AMERICA's MOST WANTED continues its dominance, ranking No. 1 among Adults 18-49, Adults 18-34, Teens and Total Viewers for the season. FOX has won Saturday among Adults 18-49 for seven consecutive seasons.
FOX's comedy lineup, including KING OF THE HILL, THE SIMPSONS, MALCOLM IN THE MIDDLE, ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT, FAMILY GUY and AMERICAN DAD ranks No. 1 on Sunday nights in Teens.
Since the premiere of the "Animation Domination" lineup, FOX Sunday prime regular programming is up from its prior 04/05 season average (excluding sports), increasing among Adults 18-49 (+36%), Adults 18-34 (+53%) and Teens (+90%).
THE SIMPSONS ranks No. 1 in its half hour among Adults 18-34 and Teens. AMERICAN DAD, FAMILY GUY and MALCOLM IN THE MIDDLE rank No. 1 in their respective time periods among Teens.
In its 16th season, FOX hit THE SIMPSONS ranks among the season's Top Ten comedies among Adults 18-49 (No. 6), Adults 18-34 (No. 3) and Teens (No. 3). Encore runs of THE SIMPSONS SUN-9:00P and SUN 9:30P also rank among the season's Top 20 programs in Teens.
FAMILY GUY (No. 3), THE SIMPSONS (No. 6) and AMERICAN DAD (No. 9) rank among the Top Ten comedies among Adults 18-49.
FAMILY GUY, AMERICAN DAD and THE SIMPSONS are the Top 3 scripted series of the season among Teens. In addition, AMERICAN DAD ranks among primetime's Top Five new comedies in Adults 18-49 (No. 4).

In the May'05 sweep, critically acclaimed drama HOUSE surpasses its prior 04/05 season average, gaining +46% among Adults 18-49 (7.1/17 vs. 4.9/12), +46% among Adults 18-34 (6.0/16 vs. 4.1/11) and +44% in Total Viewers (17.9 vs. 12.4 Mil). FOX's THE O.C. continues to enhance FOX's profile on Thursday nights. Compared to last year's May'04 sweep, THE O.C. shows substantial year-to-year gains in the time period: +55% among Adults 18-49 (3.01/9 vs. 2.0/6), +105% among Adults 18-34 (3.9/12 vs. 1.9/6), +139% among Teens (4.3/14 vs. 1.8/6) and +39% in Total Viewers (6.8 vs. 4.9 Mil).
Airing on the highly competitive Thursday night, THE O.C. ranks No. 1 in its time period in the May'05 sweep among Teens.
THE O.C. displays its dominance over NBC's Joey, besting the sitcom by +13% in the 8:00 pm half hour among Adults 18-34 in May'05 (3.4/12 vs. 3.0/10) and an enormous +289% in Teens (3.5/13 vs. 0.9/3).
THE O.C. ranks among the sweep's Top Ten programs in Teens (No. 8).
For the May '05 sweep, COPS, COPS 2 and AMERICA's MOST WANTED all ranked No. 1 in their respective time periods among Adults 18-49.
FOX's Saturday night ranked No. 1 in the May'05 sweep among Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34. In fact, this is FOX's seventh consecutive Saturday night sweep win among Adults 18-49.
During the May'05 sweep, KING OF THE HILL, MALCOLM IN THE MIDDLE, THE SIMPSONS, FAMILY GUY and AMERICAN DAD all win their half-hours among Teens. KING OF THE HILL, MALCOLM IN THE MIDDLE and THE SIMPSONS also win their time periods among Adults 18-34. KING OF THE HILL ranks No. 1 among Adults 18-49, while MALCOLM IN THE MIDDLE and THE SIMPSONS rank No. 2 among Adults 18-49.
THE SIMPSONS ranks in the sweep's Top Ten among Teens (No. 4) and Top Twenty in Adults 18-34 (No. 16).
The return of FAMILY GUY to broadcast television ranks as the sweep's No. 1 program in Teens and ranks among the Top Twenty in Adults 18-34 (No. 6) and Adults 18-49 (No. 20).
