CHICAGO (thefutoncritic.com) -- Lifetime has renewed its original series staple "Strong Medicine" for a fifth season of 22 episodes. The pickup makes "Medicine" the longest-running scripted program in the 19-year history of the network.
In addition, the cable channel has purchased the exclusive repeat rights to the series through 2010. Sony Pictures Television, "Medicine's" distributor, had been looking to sell the show's second-run cycle since September (read the story) with Lifetime having the right of first refusal.
Financial details for either deal were not released however it's widely believed the network will shell out almost the full $1.5 million production budget in its license fee for the show's fifth season.
Whoopi Goldberg and Tammy Ader the are executive producers of the series, which airs Sundays at 10:00/9:00c.
