CHICAGO (thefutoncritic.com) -- Paris Hilton and "Joe Schmo" will live again in 2004 as FOX and Spike TV have renewed their respective series "The Simple Life" and "The Joe Schmo Show" for second seasons.
"The Simple Life 2," which is being targeted for May sweeps, will feature Hilton and pal Nicole Richie road tripping from town to town and staying with different families. Casting on the new season is set to begin on Saturday, February 14 in Grand Canyon Village, AZ; Brooksville, FL; and Lafayette, LA. Interested host families can also visit producer Bunim-Murray Productions' web site for more information. FOX is committed to at least eight half-hour episodes for the new season, although its expected to produce as many as 10 installments.
As for "Joe Schmo," cable channel Spike TV is moving forward with a second season of the series, despite the show's now well-publicized premise. While Stone Stanley Entertainment and producers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese wouldn't give specifics, the duo say they plan to parody a different genre of reality TV. Season one of "Joe" sent up "The Real World"s and "Big Brother"s of the genre. Spike has ordered 10 new one-hour installments of the series. No targeted premiere date was given.
