CHICAGO (thefutoncritic.com) -- ABC will once again push several of its series beyond television's traditional definition of a full season being 22 episodes as the network announced extensions to four of its comedies yesterday.
"My Wife and Kids," which had a previous commitment of 26 episodes (read the story), will now produce 30 installments this season. The Alphabet also picked up four extra episodes of "Hope & Faith," bringing the freshman series' total to 26 episodes. Lastly, ABC also picked up two additional installments each of sophomore comedies "Eight Simple Rules" and "Less Than Perfect," raising both series' season totals to 24 episodes.
Not surprisingly, all four series are produced in house by ABC via Disney's Touchstone Television. The quartet joins the previously announced extensions to "The George Lopez Show" (28 episodes, read the story) and "According to Jim" (26 episodes, read the story). It total, just four of ABC's current crop of 10 comedies - "I'm With Her," "It's All Relative," "Married to the Kellys" and "Life With Bonnie" - won't produce more than 22 episodes this season.
