LOS ANGELES, September 7, 2006 FX today placed a 13-episode series order for the original drama series The Riches (working title, formally Lowlife), starring Emmy Award winner Eddie Izzard and Academy Award nominee Minnie Driver, announced John Landgraf, President and General Manager of FX Networks.

Were excited to pick-up FXs first family show, albeit a show and a family unlike any television viewers have seen before, said Landgraf. The pickup of The Riches reflects two of FXs goals: first, our continued efforts to make innovative, high quality television shows and second, our commitment to expanding the boundaries of our successful original series brand.

Izzard and Driver star in The Riches, a one-hour drama focusing on a family of Traveller con artists, Wayne (Izzard) and Dahlia (Driver) Malloy and their three kids. Through a set of unusual circumstances, the Malloys assume the identify of a well-to-do normal family, the Riches (Doug and Cherien). The family soon finds out that living the American Dream with their newfound identity is more twisted and challenging than any of their previous stings.

I feel very pleased and lucky to be given this opportunity, said Izzard. Id really like to thank John Landgraf and FX for giving us the chance.

The Riches was created by playwright Dmitry Lipkin, who wrote the pilot episode and will executive produce along with Izzard. Dawn Prestwich and Nicole Yorkin, who most recently served as writers and co-executive producers on Showtimes critically acclaimed drama series Brotherhood, are also executive producers, along with Michael Rosenberg, Mark Morgan and Guy Oseary. The pilot episode was directed by Carl Franklin (Devil in a Blue Dress), with re-shoots directed by Peter OFallon (House, American Gothic). FX, Fox Television Studios and Maverick Television will produce, with production scheduled to begin in December with a premiere slated for 2Q07.

Ive been writing plays in New York for years. To have your first pilot picked up for series is the thrill of a lifetime. Thanks to FX and FtvS for the challenge, said Lipkin.

Our heartfelt congratulations to creator Dmitry Lipkin, his producing partners Michael Rosenberg, Dawn Prestwich and Nicole Yorkin, and an unbelievable cast headed by the inimitable Eddie Izzard and Minnie Driver, said Nick Grad, Executive Vice President of Original Programming for FX.

Izzard is an acclaimed comedian, actor and performer. He first came to prominence in Londons West End in 1993, where his one-man comedy show won many accolades. After bringing his unique talents to the United States, HBO aired his one-man comedy show Eddie Izzard: Dressed to Kill, and Izzard won two Emmys: one for Outstanding Individual Performance in a Variety or Music Program and another for Outstanding Writing for a Variety, Music or Comedy Program. His feature film credits include The Secret Agent, Velvet Goldmine, Shadow of the Vampire, The Cats Meow, Oceans Twelve and My Super Ex-Girlfriend.

Driver has starred with some of Hollywoods biggest names on the big screen in films including Circle of Friends, Sleepers, Grosse Pointe Blank, Hard Rain, Return to Me, Ella Enchanted and The Phantom of the Opera. She earned an Academy Award nomination for her sensitive turn as Matt Damons girlfriend in the smash hit Good Will Hunting. She also had a memorable recurring role as Lorraine Finster on the NBC comedy series Will & Grace.

The Riches is the sixth drama series that FX has ever given a full season, 13-episode order to, following the recent order Dirt, starring Courtney Cox which premieres in January; the Emmy and Golden Globe award winners The Shield and Nip/Tuck; Emmy and Golden Globe nominated Rescue Me; and the critically acclaimed Over There.

FX is the flagship general entertainment basic cable network from Fox. Launched in June of 1994, FX is carried in 90 million homes. The diverse schedule includes a growing roster of distinctive original series; an impressive roster of acquired hit series; and an established film library with box-office hits from 20th Century Fox and other studios.
