By The Futon Critic Staff (TFC)

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- The latest development news, culled from recent wire reports:

Looking to keep track of all the various projects in development? Click here to visit our signature "Devwatch" section. There visitors can view our listings by network, genre, studio and even development stage (ordered to pilot, cast-contingent, script, etc.). It's updated every day!

BAD GIRLS (HBO) - The pay channel is looking to take a stab at importing the one-time U.K. mainstay, about the staff and inmates of a women's prison. Alan Ball ("Six Feet Under") is spearheading the effort alongside Eileen Gallagher, co-creator of the original series (with Maureen Chadwick and Ann McManus). The pair are executive producing the hour via the latter's Shed Productions banner alongside Nancy Oliver ("Lars and the Real Girl") and Raelle Tucker ("True Blood"), who are attached to pen the script under Ball's supervision. "Girls" was previously set up at FX in 2006 with William Schmidt writing the script.

BOOK OF MURPHY/F.A.T. CITY (The CW) - Media Rights Capital has pushed both projects' development until midseason. The CW's upfront presentation originally hinted that the comedy and drama, respectively, were set for a fall launch. Details on each series however remains under wraps. At least two new series are expected to join the CW's MRC-produced lineup at midseason.

FIVE YEAR PLAN (ABC) - Brooke D'Orsay, Joy Osmanski, Will Sasso and Steve Rosen are set to round out the cast of the multi-camera comedy pilot, about a group of twentysomethings who try to figure out the next five years and beyond. D'Orsay is set as Darcy, Mickey's (Steve Howey) health-nut girlfriend; with Rosen as Doug, Darcy's slacker brother; Osmanski as Judy, Doug's girlfriend who views him as a fun makeover project; and Sasso as Glen, Mickey's divorced 35-year-old brother who's desperately trying to live the twenties he never had. They all join the previously cast Lee Thompson Young as Glen's roommate Mutabi, a student from Africa. Gail Mancuso is directing the Universal Media Studios-based half-hour from a script by co-creators Joe Port and Joe Wiseman.

MY NAME IS EARL (NBC) - John Hoberg and Kat Likkel, supervising producers on the series, have inked a two-year, seven-figure overall deal with 20th Century Fox Television. The pact calls for the married duo to be upped to co-executive producers on "Earl" next season as well as develop new series projects for the studio.
