The NFL and "60 Minutes" Power CBS to Sunday Win

Strong performances by CBS's returning and new series led the Network to weekly wins in viewers, adults 18-49 and adults 25-54, according to Nielsen live plus same day ratings for the week ending Oct. 5, week two of the 2008-2009 television season.

During the second week of the season, CBS won Monday in adults 18-49 and adults 25-54, Tuesday in viewers, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday in all key measures and Sunday in viewers. The Network also showed year-to-year growth on three nights (Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday).

NCIS was the week's #1 scripted series with an audience of 17.47 million viewers (ranking #2 overall) and freshman drama THE MENTALIST, with an audience of 15.48 million (#6 overall), was the top rookie program of the week.

For the week in viewers: CBS (11.08m) led ABC (9.23m), NBC (7.83m) and FOX (6.45m). Season-to-date, CBS is first in viewers (11.17m), ahead of ABC (10.73m), NBC (8.07m) and FOX (6.97m).

For the week in key demographics, CBS was first in both adults 25-54 (4.1/10) and adults 18-49 (3.2/09). Season-to-date, CBS is first in adults 25-54 and second in adults 18-49 (tie).

For the week in households: CBS (7.0/12), ABC (6.0/10), NBC (5.0/08) and FOX (4.0/06). Season-to-date: CBS (7.1/12), ABC (6.9/11), NBC (5.1/08) and FOX (4.3/07).

Among viewers, CBS was first on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Sunday while second on Monday.

CBS Weekly Highlights:

-- CBS was first Monday in adults 18-49 (3.9/10), tied for first in adults 25-54 (4.8/11, with ABC), second in households (7.2/11) and viewers (11.43m). CBS placed first in both adults 25-54 and adults 18-49 for two consecutive Mondays.

? TWO AND A HALF MEN was first in adults 25-54 (6.1/13), adults 18-49 (4.7/11), second in households (8.4/12) and viewers (13.58m). TWO AND A HALF MEN was the night's #1 program in both adults 25-54 and adults 18-49.

? CSI: MIAMI was first in households (9.2/15), viewers (14.35m), adults 25-54 (5.4/13) and adults 18-49 (4.4/11).

-- Tuesday, CBS was first in households (9.7/15), viewers (15.19m), second in adults 25-54 (4.6/11) and tied for second in adults 18-49 (3.3/09, with NBC). This is CBS's best Tuesday delivery in viewers with regularly scheduled programming since May 5, 2005.

? NCIS won its time period in households (11.0/17), viewers (17.47m), finished second in adults 25-54 (5.0/13) and adults 18-49 (3.5/10). NCIS was the night's #1 program in both households and viewers.

? THE MENTALIST was first in adults 25-54 (5.1/12), second in households (9.8/15), viewers (15.48m, -0.007m viewers behind ABC) and third in adults 18-49 (3.6/09, -0.1 behind ABC). THE MENTALIST built on its NCIS lead-in in adults 18-49 by +3% and adults 25-54 by +2%. Compared to last week's series premiere, THE MENTALIST was up +2% in adults 25-54, +3% in adults 18-49 and retained 99% of both its households and viewers deliveries.

? WITHOUT A TRACE was first in households (8.4/14), viewers (12.61m), second in adults 25-54 (3.8/10) and adults 18-49 (2.7/08). Compared to last week's season premiere, WITHOUT A TRACE was up +14% in households (from 7.4/12), +3% in adults 25-54 (from 3.7/09) and added +1.33m viewers (from 11.28m, +12%).

-- CBS was first in households (7.9/13), viewers (12.17m), adults 25-54 (4.5/11) and adults 18-49 (3.4/09) for the second consecutive Wednesday.

? THE NEW ADVENTURES OF OLD CHRISTINE was up +9% in households (4.7/08 from 4.3/07) and added +280,000 viewers (6.80m from 6.52m, +3%) compared to last week's premiere.

? GARY UNMARRIED was up +2% in households (4.6/08 from 4.5/07) and added +100,000 viewers (6.92m from 6.82m, +1%) from last week's premiere. GARY UNMARRIED improved on its OLD CHRISTINE lead-in by +2% in viewers, +7% in adults 25-54 and +10% in adults 18-49.

? CRIMINAL MINDS won its time slot in households (9.5/15), viewers (14.78m), adults 25-54 (5.4/12) and adults 18-49 (3.9/10) for the second consecutive week.

? CSI: NY won its time slot in households (9.6/16), viewers (14.88m), adults 25-54 (5.4/14) and adults 18-49 (4.1/11) for the second consecutive week. CSI: NY scored its best households, viewers and adults 25-54 deliveries since February 14, 2007 and in adults 18-49 since Dec.12, 2007. Compared to last week's season premiere, CSI: NY was up +4% in both households (from 9.2/16) and adults 25-54 (from 5.2/13), +2% in adults 18-49 (from 4.0/11) and added +290,000 viewers (from 14.59m, +2%).

? SURVIVOR: GABON was won its time period in households (7.7/12), viewers (13.08m), adults 25-54 (5.6/14) and adults 18-49 (4.5/12). SURVIVOR: GABON matched last week's premiere delivery in households, viewers, adults 25-54 and adults 18-49.

-- CBS was first Friday in households (5.4/10), viewers (8.15m), adults 25-54 (2.9/08) and adults 18-49 (2.2/07). CBS won every half-hour in adults 25-54 and adults 18-49, five of six half-hours in viewers.

? GHOST WHISPERER (P) won its time period in households (6.1/11), viewers (9.45m), adults 25-54 (3.4/10) and adults 18-49 (2.5/09). GHOST WHISPERER posted its best households and viewers deliveries since January 18, 2008, best adults 18-49 and adults 25-54 since April 11, 2008. Compared to last year's season premiere (on September 28, 2007), GHOST WHISPERER was up +5% in households, +4% in adults 18-49 and even in adults 25-54. GHOST WHISPERER was the night's #1 program in households, viewers, adults 25-54 and adults 18-49.

? THE EX-LIST (P) was first in households (4.6/08), viewers (6.79m), adults 25-54 (2.6/07) and adults 18-49 (2.0/06).

? NUMB3RS (P) was first in households (5.3/10), viewers (8.21m), adults 25-54 (2.8/08) and adults 18-49 (2.1/07).

? CBS ELITEXC SATURDAY NIGHT FIGHTS (S) (9:00-11:20PM) posted a 2.7/05 with 4.56m viewers, 2.1/06 in adults 25-54, 2.0/06 in adults 18-49, 2.0/07 in adults 18-34, 2.9/08 in men 25-54, 2.7/08 in men 18-49 and 2.7/10 in men 18-34. Compared to the last CBS ELITEXC SATURDAY NIGHT FIGHTS (July 26, 2008), CBS was up +59% in households (from 1.7/04), +75% in adults 25-54 (from 1.2/04), +100% in adults 18-49 (from 1.0/04), +150% in adults 18-34 (from 0.8/04), +93% in men 25-54 (from 1.5/05), +108% in men 18-49 (from 1.3/05), +170% in men 18-34 (from 1.0/05) and added +1.99m viewers (from 2.57m, +77%).

-- CBS was first in households (8.7/14), viewers (13.97m), second in adults 25-54 (5.0/12) Sunday night.

-- CBS's NFL 30-minute prime run over posted a 15.3/28 with 24.87m viewers, 9.9/28 in adults 25-54 and 8.6/26 in adults 18-49. CBS led the 7:00-7:30PM time period in households, viewers and key demographics.

? 60 MINUTES (7:30-8:30PM) was first in households (10.5/17), viewers (16.65m), adults 25-54 (5.3/13) and adults 18-49 (4.0/11). Compared to last week's season premiere, 60 MINUTES was up +31% in households (from 8.0/14), +83% in adults 25-54 (from 2.9/08), +82% in adults 18-49 (from 2.2/07) and added +4.06m viewers (from 12.59m, +32%).

? THE AMAZING RACE (8:30-9:30PM) was up +10% in households (6.6/10 from 6.0/09), +13% in adults 25-54 (4.4/09 from 3.9/09), +6% in adults 18-49 (3.4/08 from 3.2/08) and added +960,000 viewers (11.00m from 10.04m, +10%) compared to last week's season premiere.
