LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- The latest development news, culled from recent wire reports:
Looking to keep track of all the various projects in development? Click here to visit our signature "Devwatch" section. There visitors can view our listings by network, genre, studio and even development stage (ordered to pilot, cast-contingent, script, etc.). It's updated every day!
MAD MEN (AMC) - The cable channel is moving forward with a third season of the Emmy-winning drama. Said pickup however is contingent on producer Lionsgate signing creator/executive producer Matthew Weiner to a new deal. Weiner has been in talks with several studios to ink an overall deal which may or may not allow him to continue as "Men's" showrunner. Lionsgate conversely is hoping that locking up Weiner to a two-year deal will be enough leverage to secure an early commitment to a fourth season of the series.
UNTITLED WILL ARNETT PROJECT (FOX, New!) - "Arrested Development" alum Will Arnett has inked a seven-figure development deal with the network. The pact calls for FOX to develop a comedy around the actor, who currently recurs on NBC's "30 Rock" and is among the voice ensemble for FOX's upcoming animated comedy "Sit Down, Shut Up." Unlike most talent holding deals however, Arnett's gives him complete creative control over any resulting project. No studio is attached. Arnett has been aggressively pursued by FOX as of late, who had originally hoped to cast him in its comedy pilot "Boldly Going Nowhere."
