CBS NEWS DEBUTS "48 HOURS CRIMESIDER," A PROVOCATIVE NEW CRIME BLOG FROM THE PRODUCERS OF "48 HOURS MYSTERY"

LAUNCHING TODAY AS PART OF THE NEW CBSNEWS.COM, "48 HOURS CRIMESIDER" OFFERS TRUE-CRIME FANS UP-TO-THE-MINUTE NEWS ON THE MOST RIVETING CRIME STORIES OF THE DAY AS WELL AS ORIGINAL EXCLUSIVE AUDIO, VIDEO AND EDITORIAL CONTENT

Beginning today, Tuesday, June 16, CBS News unveils 48 HOURS CRIMESIDER (http://www.crimesider.com), a provocative new crime blog launching as part of the new CBSNews.com. Created by the team behind 48 HOURS MYSTERY, the highest-rated true-crime program on television, CRIMESIDER will be the premium true-crime destination where fans can get the latest news on the most riveting crime stories as they unfold, as well as original exclusive audio, video and editorial content.

"Fans of true crime are an avid and participatory community," says 48 HOURS MYSTERY executive producer Susan Zirinsky. "But while true-crime shows bring in millions of viewers, there is no destination online that offered the comprehensive scope that is available on television. We created CRIMESIDER to fill that gap."

Drawing on the enormous national reporting resources of CBS News, CBS Radio and CBS affiliates, the site will bring fresh content and a local perspective to these compelling stories and bring true-crime fans into the fold though interactive elements such as Skype, Twitter and other social networking properties.

"Susan Zirinsky is a visionary producer whose work is always on the cutting edge," says Sean McManus, President CBS News and Sports. "Over the years she has been very savvy in leveraging the Web to expand the 48 HOURS brand. CRIMESIDER represents her and her team's efforts to give fans the programming they want, when they want it."

CRIMESIDER will serve as another platform where fans of 48 HOURS MYSTERY can see exclusive extended scenes that didn't appear on television, as well as trailers and behind-the-scenes stories from upcoming broadcasts. Among the robust content available on CRIMESIDER will be:

THE BLOTTER: Rapidly updated news, images, videos and on the scene reporting of the day's top crime stories. In addition to straightforward reporting, expert investigators will offer their own analysis of the event.

911: Each week, CRIMESIDER will feature a new chilling 911 call showing terror, bravery, and survival, putting users at the scene of the crime.

POLICE INTERROGATIONS: CRIMESIDER will feature video of America's most gripping police interrogations. A new video will be posted each week with a background on the crime.

CAUGHT ON TAPE: Video of the most shocking car chases and crimes caught on video will also be updated on a weekly basis.

VANISHED: Tracking the most riveting missing persons stories, with constantly updated Amber Alerts.

CYBERCRIME: Some crimes don't even require physical contact. CRIMESIDER will go inside the investigations of cybercrimes and meet the technology experts who solve them.

In coming weeks, CRIMESIDER will also roll out additional original content including:

BOOK 'EM: In these weekly interviews, renowned true-crime writers discuss their latest book and reveal what drew them to the case. Users will also be able to read an advance chapter to whet their appetites.

CRIME LAB: Every week, a new compelling video interview with real CSI investigators and forensic experts will give true-crime fans insight into the science of solving a crime, from bite marks to blood-spatter analysis.

"CRIMESIDER will be a veritable one-stop-shop for fans of the genre," says Zirinsky. "The only place online where true-crime fans can access the most riveting stories."
