AMERICAN IDOL (FOX) - Simon Cowell is finalizing a deal with CKX, the parent company of co-producer 19 Entertainment, that will keep the much beloved/reviled judge on the series through the 2011 season. CKX chairman and CEO Robert Sillerman broke the news during the company's second-quarter earnings call. It's understood the pact will likely rocket Cowell beyond his current $36 million a year salary to the $45 million range. Host Ryan Seacrest recently inked a three-year, $45 million deal with 19 Entertainment to continue in said role as well as develop series projects for the company.
UGLY BETTY (ABC) - "America's Next Top Model" alum Yaya Dacosta has booked a recurring role on the show's upcoming fourth season. She'll take over for Jowharah Jones as Nico, Wilhelmina's defiant daughter who gets caught up in one of the show's latest mysteries. No reason was given for the recasting, which was reported by Entertainment Weekly.
UNTITLED WILL ARNETT PROJECT (FOX) - "Arrested Development's" Mitch Hurwitz and Jim Vallely are set to reteam with co-star Will Arnett for a new comedy at the network about "a rich Beverly Hills jackass (Arnett) who falls in love with a charitable tree-hugging woman who can't stand his lifestyle or values." The single-camera project is a result of a development deal the actor inked with FOX last year. Arnett, Hurwitz and Vallely are co-writing the half-hour for Hurwitz's Sony Pictures Television-based Tantamount banner. The latter duo are executive producing alongside Eric Tannenbaum, Kim Tannenbaum, Peter Principato and Paul Young with Arnett serving as a producer.
THE VOW (Lifetime, New!) - Gabrielle Union ("Cadillac Records") is set to topline a new original movie at the cable channel based on Denene Millner, Angela Burt-Murray and Mitzi Miller's novel of the same name. The project, which is being developed by Sony Pictures Television, revolves around "three women who attend a wedding and all decide to be engaged within the next year." Union is also executive producing the potential film alongside Tracey Edmonds and Sheila Ducksworth with Nzingha Stewart attached to pen the script.
