FOX Gives Updates on "Lie to Me," Reality Projects
By Brian Ford Sullivan (TFC)

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- While Simon Cowell's exodus from "American Idol" to "The X Factor" dominated the TCA Winter Press Tour on Monday, FOX executives gave updates on a host of other topics following its executive session this afternoon.

Here's a breakdown of the notable developments:

-- I asked Peter Rice, FOX's entertainment chairman, if we should assume we won't see new episodes of "Lie to Me" until the summer. "I don't know," he responded. "You may see it in the late spring. I think we have to look at that."

-- As for the future of multi-camera half-hours "Brothers" and "'Til Death," Rice would only note that "we haven't set our schedule for next year."

-- Rice also revealed "Someone's Gotta Go," a long-gestating reality project in which struggling small businesses give employees the power to decide which one of them will be terminated, is still in the pilot stage and "we don't have plans to air it yet." FOX's reality chief Mike Darnell later clarified, "It's still active, it's still in the pipeline. We're not quite sure what we're going to do with it. And that's the honest truth."

-- And finally, Darnell confessed we won't ever see "When Women Rule the World," a reality effort originally pegged for the summer of 2008. "That will never make it [to the schedule]. Nothing's wrong with it, it just sat on the shelf too long. Sometimes things sit on the shelf too long and get old." It's understood 11 episodes were completed of the series, in which "a group of strong, educated and independent women, tired of living in a man's world, rule over a group of unsuspecting men used to calling the shots."
