Development Update: Friday, April 30
By The Futon Critic Staff (TFC)

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- The latest development news, culled from recent wire reports:

Looking to keep track of all the various projects in development? Click here to visit our signature "Devwatch" section. There visitors can view our listings by network, genre, studio and even development stage (ordered to pilot, cast-contingent, script, etc.). It's updated every day!

GOOD VIBES (FOX) - MTV is looking to revive the animated project, about a crazy group of high-school students living in a Southern California coastal community. FOX ordered a pilot presentation back in September of 2008 that wasn't ordered to series. David Gordon Green ("Pineapple Express") was behind the project, whose voice ensemble included Adam Brody, Alan Tudyk, Debi Mazar, Jake Busey, Josh Gad and Olivia Thirlby. Mike Clements and Tom Werner also served as executive producers via their Warner Bros. Television-based Good Humor Television. Green, Clements and Werner will return for the new incarnation, which is on track for a 12-episode series commitment, as will director Brad Abelson.

NCIS (CBS) - David McCallum has closed a deal with CBS Television Studios to return for the show's eighth season. The actor was one of four regulars - including Michael Weatherly, Pauley Perrette and Sean Murray - who isn't signed for the 2010-11 season. No financial details were given.

RED DEAD REDEMPTION (FOX) - The network has quietly shifted the half-hour animated film from Saturday, May 15 to Saturday, May 29 at midnight/11:00c. No reason was given for the change. Here's how FOX details the special: "1910. The West is dying. The American frontier is undergoing a violent transition from the ways of old to modern times, and Mexico has entered a prolonged period of bloody civil war. Reformed outlaw John Marston is on his way to capture former running buddy Bill Williamson when he comes upon a half dead snake oil merchant named West Dickens. Marston travels under a bleak and unforgiving sun, teaming up with a violent sheriff and a colorful mentally deranged grave robber and together they discover a bloody massacre of homesteaders left in the wake of Williamson. They hatch a plan to break into an abandoned fort where the Williamson Gang is holed up - and a dark, surprising twist ensues. Director John Hillcoat, craftsman of the savage western "The Proposition" and the recent film adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's "The Road" uses the world of Red Dead Redemption to make a short film that is a compelling cinematic triumph."

SEX AND THE CITY (HBO) - Michael Patrick King, the writer and director of the two "Sex and the City" films, is reportedly finalizing a multi-year overall deal with Warner Bros. Television. The pact, likely to begin in June, will call for King to develop new series projects for the studio via a new production company.

THAT GIRL (MTV, New!) - Lauren Iungerich ("10 Things I Hate About You") has landed a pilot order from the cable channel for a new scripted comedy about Jenna Hamilton, "a high school sophomore and wallflower striving for attention who gets her wish and more when a clumsy bathroom accident has the whole school convinced she'd tried to commit suicide." Millicent Shelton ("30 Rock") is on board to direct the half-hour, which is currently casting.
