BILL MAHER TAKES OVER UCLA AMERICAN POLITICS CLASS AS SURPRISE PROFESSOR IN mtvU'S "STAND IN" SERIES

Maher's "Stand In" Premieres on mtvU and mtvU.com on May 7 at 12 p.m. ET/9 a.m. PT

Los Angeles, CA - April 25, 2012 - mtvU, MTV's 24-hour college network, today announced that comedian, political commentator and "Real Time" host Bill Maher is the newest guest professor on the network's ongoing, Emmy-nominated "Stand In" series. As mtvU followed, Maher travelled to the University of California Los Angeles campus to shock a class full of students during Professor Tom Schwartz's "Introduction to American Politics" course. Maher's "Stand In" will premiere on mtvU to more than 750 college campuses nationwide and on-demand at mtvU.com beginning May 7 at 12 p.m. ET/9 a.m. PT, but a preview clip is currently available at mtvU.com.

"Your generation is going to have to take back your democracy," Maher said to the UCLA students. During his guest lecture, Maher fielded questions from students on such hot-button political issues as campaign finance and healthcare reform.

With almost two decades of experience commenting on the nation's politics, guest lecturer Maher gave students in the class a humorous yet unflinchingly honest look at American government today. The political commentator and comedian is the latest cultural luminary to participate in mtvU's "Stand In" series. Each edition of the program features a guest professor teaching a class unique to their experience and background. Previous participants include Madonna, Kanye West, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, John Legend, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Russell Simmons, author Tom Wolfe, rapper Nas, Marilyn Manson, Snoop Dogg, Senator John McCain, and Sting.

After spending almost a decade as the host of "Politically Incorrect," Maher is currently featured on HBO's "Real Time." His unique combination of wit, humor, and political knowledge has earned him twenty-seven Emmy nominations. In addition to his television work, Maher was also at the heart of the uproarious 2008 documentary "Religulous" and is a published author with five bestsellers under his belt.
