PBS received 58 nominations for the 64th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards, the most ever for public media. The nominees were announced July 19, 2012 by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS).

PBS programs receiving multiple nominations include MASTERPIECE CLASSIC "Downton Abbey" (16 nominations), MASTERPIECE MYSTERY! "Sherlock: A Scandal in Belgravia" (13), MASTERPIECE CLASSIC "Great Expectations" (4) and GREAT PERFORMANCES (5 episodes), AMERICAN MASTERS (4), PROHIBITION (3) MASTERPIECE CONTEMPORARY (2) and SESAME STREET (2).

"We are absolutely thrilled with today's news," said PBS President & CEO Paula Kerger. In addition, a number of our arts programs and our independent film showcase, INDEPENDENT LENS, were also nominated.
