MTV TO AIR FIRST LOOK AT EXCLUSIVE FOOTAGE FROM SUMMIT ENTERTAINMENT'S "DIVERGENT" WITH AN INTRODUCTION BY STARS SHAILENE WOODLEY AND THEO JAMES

Footage Will Be Aired Live from the 2013 "MTV Video Music Awards Pre-Show" Red Carpet in Brooklyn on Sunday, August 25 at 8:00 P.M. ET/PT

NEW YORK, NY (August 22, 2013) - MTV today announced that Shailene Woodley and Theo James, stars of Summit Entertainment's upcoming feature film, Divergent, will introduce the first look at exclusive footage live from the 2013 "MTV Video Music Awards" pre-show Sunday, August 25 at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT. Summit Entertainment is a Lionsgate company.

The highly anticipated film, directed by Neil Burger from a screenplay by Evan Daugherty and Vanessa Taylor and Burger, is based on the first book in the New York Times bestselling trilogy written by Veronica Roth. Divergent, which also stars Ashley Judd, Jai Cortney, Ray Stevenson, Zo? Kravitz, Miles Teller, Tony Goldwyn and Kate Winslet, opens nationwide on March 21, 2014.

In a future world where people are divided into distinct factions based on their personalities, Tris Prior (played by Shailene Woodley) is warned she is Divergent and will never fit into any one group. When she discovers a conspiracy to destroy all Divergents, she must find out what makes being Divergent so dangerous before it's too late.

Divergent cast members Theo James and Miles Teller will also sit down with MTV News' Josh Horowitz on Saturday, August 24 from 6:30-7:00 p.m. ET for the VMA All Access livestream at the Barclays Center. VMA All Access, a newly expanded experience, will provide a beyond-the-ropes look into all the action leading up to the awards show, optimized specifically for web, mobile and tablet screens including the recently launched MTV app for iOS and Xbox.

As previously announced, the 2013 "MTV Video Music Awards Pre-Show" will feature performances by new faces of pop, Austin Mahone and Ariana Grande. VMA "Artist to Watch" nominee Mahone is set to serenade the streets of Brooklyn with his single "What About Love" from his upcoming debut album, set to release later this year. Platinum selling recording artist Ariana Grande, who also stars on Nickelodeon's "Sam & Cat," will rock the stage with her hit singles "The Way" and "Baby I" from her upcoming album "Yours Truly" in stores September 3rd.

Additionally, chart-topping female DJ/Producer duo and COVERGIRLS NERVO will spin from the red carpet throughout the broadcast as MTV News' Sway Calloway, James Montgomery and Christina Garibaldi bring all of the action and interviews with music's hottest stars to viewers at home. Plus, fans will be able to be part of the interview team by submitting video questions for their favorite artists using #AskVMA through Twitter, Vine and Instagram.

Leading up to the star-studded pre-show, MTV will air an all new episode of hit docu-series "Catfish: The TV Show" at 7:00 p.m. ET/PT.

Dave Sirulnick and Ryan Kroft are Executive Producers for the 2013 "MTV Video Music Awards Pre-Show." Jonathan Mussman is Executive in Charge. Steve Paley is Director. Whitney-Gayle Benta is Executive in Charge of Talent.

Official sponsors of the 2013 "MTV Video Music Awards" include adidas Originals, COVERGIRL, Kia Motors, ORBIT(R) GUM, Pepsi(R), State Farm(R), Taco Bell(R), and Windows Phone.
