Turner Sports Gears Up for 2013 MLB Postseason with Introduction of New "Truss Cam" Technology

Innovations Also Include Enhancements to "TBS Total Motion" & "Pitch Trax" When MLB Postseason Begins Tuesday, Oct. 1, on TBS

Turner Sports steps up to the plate for its extensive coverage of the 2013 Major League Baseball Postseason - beginning with the exclusive presentation of the Wild Card presented by Budweiser on Tuesday, Oct. 1, on TBS - with the introduction of ground-breaking technology. For the first time, TBS will utilize "Truss Cam" in select ballparks to provide a unique, compelling vantage point. "Truss Cam," a one-of-a-kind technology, is a camera mounted on a trolley which runs on an up to 360-foot track just outside the outfield wall. The gyro-stabilized camera can provide 360-degree views of the action.

Additional technological enhancements this postseason include:

TBS Total Motion - capturing more than 3,000 frames per second, the high-speed camera will provide viewers gripping super-slow-motion replays at key moments of the game. Each TBS game telecast will utilize TBS Total Motion, with two in use during the NLCS.

Super Slo Mo - in addition to TBS Total Motion, TBS will triple the amount of super slo mo cameras used throughout the postseason.

Pitch Trax presented by Chevrolet - an enhanced version of the in-game technology will be rolled out for the postseason. In addition to illustrating pitch location, the on-screen graphic will be able to indicate pitch type and other variables such as a swinging strike vs. being caught looking. It will also be able to display a hitter's batting history against a specific pitcher.

Bloomberg Stats - TBS will incorporate the comprehensive statistical information at select moments within the telecast, such as a hitter's performance in key situations of the game (e.g. facing a particular pitcher with a 3-2 count and two outs). The analytics will also be utilized by game and studio analysts to examine every pitch of every game to identify patterns and determine relevant tendencies.

"Our philosophy with any new technology incorporated into our telecasts is to bring our fan closer to the game, provide more creative ways to extend storylines and improve the overall viewing experience," said Craig Barry, senior vice president and executive creative director, Turner Sports. "These enhancements will provide unique perspective into the game and deliver deeper levels of access during meaningful game situations and other key moments."

TBS will offer extensive coverage of the 2013 MLB Postseason beginning with the network's exclusive presentation of the 2013 MLB Wild Card Presented by Budweiser including the National League Wild Card Game on Tuesday, Oct. 1, and the American League Wild Card Game on Wednesday, Oct. 2. The network, in its seventh consecutive year televising the MLB Postseason, will be the exclusive home of up to 18 Division Series games, with coverage on TBS presented by T-Mobile, and the entire National League Championship Series Coverage on TBS presented by the Venture Card from Capital One.

Postseason.TV Returns for 2013 MLB Postseason

In addition to its exclusive live game telecasts, Turner Sports will team with MLB Advanced Media to bring fans up to 10 live alternative camera angles with Postseason.TV. A digital companion product, Postseason.TV is available for every game televised by TBS allowing fans to customize their viewing experience. Postseason.TV is available for $4.99 via broadband and mobile through MLB.com's At Bat 13 app, tablet and connected devices. Subscribers can watch one camera angle or view up to four different cameras simultaneously through a mosaic display.

MLB on TBS

TBS has broadcast MLB games for more than 35 years, televising the MLB Division Series and one League Championship Series since 2007, and was the home of the Atlanta Braves from 1977 to 2007. In 2012, Turner and MLB extended their agreement until 2021. The partnership represents one of the longest-running relationships between a media company and league in the history of televised sports.
