BETA (ABC, New!) - Feature writer Lindsay Devlin is spearheading a small screen take on Rachel Cohn's best-selling young adult book series "set in the near future when clones have become the enslaved work force for the wealthy. But when a new Beta model is introduced and discovers the dark truth about her own origins, she also begins to uncover secrets and lies within the utopian island community she's serving." ABC Studios is behind the hour with Temple Hill Entertainment's Marty Bowen, Wyck Godfrey and Larry Gilbert as well as Depth of Field's Chris Weitz, Andrew Miano and Paul Weitz among the executive producers. THE BLACK BOX (ABC; W: Amy Holden Jones; D: Simon Curtis) - David Chisum and Siobhan Williams have both landed roles on the upcoming drama, about Dr. Elizabeth Black (Kelly Reilly), a world-famous neuroscientist who unwraps the mysteries of the brain as she juggles complex issues of her own. Chisum will play Josh Black, "Kelly's older brother, closest confidant and best friend"; while Williams is set as his daughter Esme Black. Ali Wong, David Ajala, Ditch Davey, Tasso Feldman, Terry Kinney and Vanessa Redgrave also star in the series. (Deadline.com)
EMPOWERED (NBC, New!) - Lawrence Trilling ("Parenthood") has landed a potential drama at the Peacock about Charlotte Davis, "the public face of Omni Health, a massive pharmaceutical company with its tentacles in everything from bioengineering and nanotechnology to the U.S. military. When Charlotte's father is tragically killed and a mysterious stranger shows up on her doorstep claiming that Omni - and Charlotte's husband - are responsible, she finds herself torn between her search for the truth and the company that's always been her family." Trilling will write and direct the potential hour for Universal Television as well as executive produce alongside the studio-based Shaun Cassidy ("Blue Bloods"). (THR.com)
THE NEVER LIST (CBS, New!) - A.M. Homes ("The L Word") is looking to bring Koethi Zan's international best-seller - about a top trauma doctor at a prestigious New York City hospital who tries to unravel the mystery of her kidnapping (along with three others) 10 years earlier and remaining girl who has yet to be rescued - to the small screen at the Eye. CBS Television Studios is behind the hour with Sarah Timberman and Carl Beverly of Timberman-Beverly Productions executive producing alongside Homes and Zan serving as a supervising producer. PERMANENT VACATION (ABC, New!) - Andy Bobrow and Kristin Holloway have sold a single-camera comedy to the Alphabet about "a group of middle-of-the-road misfits in a mediocre bar on an average resort in the middle of a lake in the middle of America." Said effort comes from the Sony Pictures Television-based Olive Bridge Entertainment with the company's Will Gluck and Richie Schwartz set to executive produce alongside Bobrow and Holloway serving as a co-executive producer. UNTITLED MICHAEL SALTZMAN PROJECT (FOX, New!) - Michael Saltzman ("Mad Men") has booked a potential comedy at the network about "a successful executive who returns home to find that the family that took him in as a disadvantaged youth now needs his help." CBS Television Studios is behind the project with Jeffrey Kramer of Juniper Place Productions executive producing alongside Saltzman. (Deadline.com)
