BEOWULF (Syfy, New!) - Matt Greenberg (1408) is developing a new drama at the cable channel based on the famed anonymous epic poem, which "examines the hero's rise to power and his feud with the monster Grendel." Brian Hamilton, Michael Chechik, Andrew Cosby and Paulo de Oliveira are also on board to executive produce the hour alongside Greenberg for Omni and Universal Cable Productions. (Deadline.com)
OPEN (HBO/Fox 21; W: Lauren Gussis & Ryan Murphy; D: TBA) - Aisha Tyler ("Whose Line Is It Anyway?") is the latest to score a role on the drama pilot, billed as "a modern, provocative exploration of human sexuality and relationships." She'll guest star as Monica, "a happily married nurse at Grace's (Michelle Monaghan) practice who possesses a modern outlook on matrimony." Cheyenne Jackson, Anna Torv, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Scott Speedman and Wes Bentley also star. (TVLine.com)
UNTITLED MAYA RUDOLPH PROJECT (NBC, New!) - Maya Rudolph ("Up All Night") is set to re-team with Lorne Michaels ("Saturday Night Live") for a potential primetime variety series at the Peacock. The network has commissioned a pilot for the project, which is being eyed to air as a special following its upcoming Winter Olympics coverage. Erin David and Dave Becky will also serve as executive producers alongside Rudolph and Michaels. No other specifics were given. (Deadline.com)
