SEC Network Hires Greg McElroy as a College Football Analyst

Former Alabama quarterback and 2010 BCS National Champion Greg McElroy, has joined ESPN as a college football analyst for SEC Network launching August 14, 2014. As a recent prolific player in the Southeastern Conference, McElroy will offer first hand insight on players, coaches and the game. He has a multi-year agreement with ESPN.

"I am thrilled to be joining the ESPN family. College football has always been one of my greatest passions, and I am tremendously grateful for the opportunity to take part in the launch of the SEC Network," said McElroy. "The SEC provided me with five of the best years of my life, and the fact I will be able to cover its 14 outstanding universities was extremely appealing and exciting!"

McElroy joins analysts Jesse Palmer and Tim Tebow along with commentators Paul Finebaum, Brent Musburger and Joe Tessitore on a growing roster of experts contributing to the network's coverage. The current analyst line-up collectively represents four SEC Football Championship wins, with McElroy and Tebow winning MVP in back to back years (2008, 2009).

"Greg was an integral member in what has been a dynasty of success at Alabama under Coach Nick Saban over the last decade. The personal understanding he has of the teams we will cover every week allows a perspective unavailable on any other network," said Stephanie Druley, ESPN vice president, production, college sports. "His intelligence, experience and first hand playing knowledge of playing in the conference on the biggest national stage will be an incredible asset to the fans."

In addition to leading the Crimson Tide to a BCS and SEC Championship, McElroy was named 2010 ESPN/CoSIDA Academic All-American of the Year and first-team Academic All-American. He most recently played in the NFL as a quarterback, drafted by the New York Jets in 2011.

The SEC Network, a multiplatform ESPN network devoted to the Southeastern Conference, will air 45 college football games next year, in addition to an array of daily studio shows providing in-depth commentary on all 14 SEC teams. AT&T U-verse, DISH and NRTC have agreed to carry the network. Additional ESPN and SEC Network college football announcements will be made in the coming weeks. Additional details about the soon to launch network can be found here.
