IFC Sows Wild Oates This Summer With "Garfunkel and Oates" Debut

New Scripted Comedy Starring Creators Riki Lindhome and Kate Micucci Directed by Fred Savage Thursday, August 7 at 10:00PM ET/PT

Guest Stars Include Sir Ben Kingsley, Steve Agee, Abby Elliott, Chris Hardwick, Anthony Jeselnik, Natasha Leggero, Tig Notaro, John Oates, Chris Parnell & More

New York, NY (June 2, 2014) - Folk yes! Get in tune with Riki Lindhome (New Girl, Hell Baby) and Kate Micucci (The Big Bang Theory, Raising Hope) as they try to make it big in Hollywood. This comedy-folk duo navigates love, life and work with one satirical (and sometimes saucy) song after another in IFC's latest scripted comedy, Garfunkel and Oates. The eight-episode season premieres Thursday, August 7 at 10:00pm ET/PT on IFC.

Garfunkel and Oates follows Riki and Kate as hard-working comedy underdogs trying to reconcile Riki's razor-sharp realism and Kate's childlike wonder. Awkward, flawed and not above a dirty joke, the pair struggle to make their mark in the comedy world while muddling through messy dating scenarios. Nothing stops the ukulele and guitar-wielding twosome from singing about the unspoken truths of pregnant women (they're smug), the boundaries of social media (or lack there of), the difference between being 29 and 31 (two years; worlds apart) and the joys of same-sex puppet unions (hooray).

In the premiere episode, Riki discovers the consequences of making her boyfriend's privates public. Once she starts dating a fellow comedian, the tables turn and her overactive gag reflex quickly becomes a punch line in his act. Meanwhile, Kate struggles to look the part for her audition as the "hot slut" against Sir Ben Kingsley. In the second episode, Riki and Kate are confronted with the reality of "Rule 34" - that everything has a porn counterpart - when they come face-to-face with their sex video doppelgangers "Garfinger and Butts." Trouble arises when their alter egos' start to overshadow Kate and Riki as they compete for the same gigs.

Joining Riki and Kate in the first two episodes are guest stars Steve Agee (New Girl, The Sarah Silverman Program), Abby Elliott (Saturday Night Live), Chris Hardwick (Talking Dead, @midnight, Nerdist Podcast), Anthony Jeselnik (The Jeselnik Offensive), Natasha Leggero (Burning Love, He's Just Not That Into You), Tig Notaro (Professor Blastoff podcast, comedy album Live) and Chris Parnell (Suburgatory, Archer) as well as special guests Sir Ben Kingsley (Iron Man 3, Ender's Game) and half the inspiration for the singing pair, John Oates from the duo, Daryl Hall & John Oates.

Garfunkel and Oates is created by Lindhome and Micucci. Seasoned television director and actor Fred Savage (Modern Family, 2 Broke Girls, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Party Down) directs the entire season. The series is produced by Abominable Pictures and executive produced by Lindhome, Micucci, Savage, Jonathan Stern (Childrens Hospital, Burning Love) and Dennis McNicholas (Saturday Night Live), who is also the showrunner.
